The numbers of those choosing emigration to New Zealand as a way to enrich their lives are growing steadily. The reasons behind this emigration increase are wide and diverse although the fact that New Zealand has a high standard of living with a modern and developed economy is certainly one of them; the average GDP is around twenty six thousand dollars.

Despite the modernity of the Kiwi economy the need for skilled workers is still evident meaning that the door for emigration is open to those who have the right skills. With a population of around four million there is a great deal of space for the taking, undoubtedly this figure will increase in the coming years. One of the most powerful lures however is the cultural and language similarities with Britain.

Another reason behind the increase in migration levels is the stunning landscape and climate of New Zealand. British visitors are greeted with a land that is unspoilt, pristine varying from vast open plains to high peaked mountains. All of this space is uncrowned and open to those who love the outdoors. Understandably many see a move to New Zealand and a move to paradise. For those who has seen the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy will understand the jaw-droppingly spectacular lands. Vast swathes of forest, fjords that would be at home in Scandinavia and imposing mountain ranges mean that the landscape is as diverse as the inhabitants of these magical islands.

The island nature of New Zealand means that the majority of Kiwis are only a half hour drive away from the coast. This means that activities such as swimming, sailing, diving and fishing are always a possibility. Kiwis in general love their sport meaning that for those of the active persuasion there is always something to do. Kiwis love cricket, soccer and especially rugby, although golf is also popular, New Zealand has more courses than anywhere else in the world per capita. For golf lovers, the call of emigration is ultimately understandable. Winter sports are also popular with skiing and snowboarding at a number of different mountain resorts.

The wines of New Zealand have become increasingly popular in recent years. As a result a growth in fine cuisine has occurred to match the wines on offer. With sumptuous local produce such as the famous lamb and even better seafood, migrants are sure to have their culinary needs met.

Housing in the country is much cheaper than in UK predominantly because of the freer space. It is estimated that two thirds of the Kiwi population own their own homes; reputedly one of the highest rates in the world. In terms of the places people live, the suburbs are most popular although the number of those living in the city centres and rural areas is also on the increase.

For those looking to raise children in New Zealand it is good to know that the education system strongly resembles the UK’s. Like the UK school is compulsory up until the age of fifteen. Schools in the country have a good reputation and there are a number of private schools. Of course sport plays an important part in school life with rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer, unlike the UK; most schools in the country have their own expansive playing fields. For higher education there are also a large number of universities and colleges.

So for those thinking of emigration the reasons are certainly there. With a fantabulous scenery and culture as well as an ethic that breeds hard work and even harder playing it is understandable why so many are making the move down under. It may be a twenty six hour flight but with such powerful lures it is a flight well worth taking.
