A Guide To Tummy Tucks After Pregnancy
Posted by AnnaStenning in HealthWhat many people do not know is that we are all in some way or another obsessed with how we look. Some tend to show it more than others, whereas others allow this to consume them and spend their time hiding away. One problem that many women face after giving birth is regaining their once flat tummy. These can be due to little time for exercise, slower metabolism, health related issues induced by giving birth (diabetes, underactive thyroid) or weakened muscle strength in the stomach area.
Many women during pregnancy notice a high level of stretch marks developing and usually after birth find that these marks do not disappear so easily. It is rumoured that many celebrities have opted for abdominoplasty to get a quick fix on regaining their original trim figure. Due to the loss of muscle strength in the abdominal area, many women find it difficult to lose the puffiness and the swelling. An area in which this causes a problem is the lower abdomen.
Some women who cannot afford abdominoplasty will opt for the old fashioned restricted diet regime and exercise plan. For those who have undergone a caesarean section, may find that their healing time will take longer than planned and miss out on the opportunity to become fit and healthy again. However, not everybody who undergoes abdominoplasty can maintain a flat tummy, because they may not know how to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Therefore, one cannot see this as a permanent diet plan unless they are willing to put the work in to keep it that way.
However, abdominoplasty benefits those looking for fat removal and tightening of the tummy area, which will mean going through a consultation before deciding on what surgery to take. Some women may want fat removed, in which case liposuction is only needed. However, other women may want to have their muscles and skin tightened after giving birth, or have skin folds removed in circumstances where a lot of weight have been lost.
Each option is not an easy decision to make, which is why patients considering this should seek the attentions of a qualified surgeon and begin their research into successful stories post surgical procedure. In order to qualify for the procedure one must find out what they would need to do to prepare. To begin with the patient must be healthy from the beginning in order not to delay the healing process. The patient must also refrain from smoking at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to and after having the surgery done, this is to avoid possible chest and wound infections.
There are three different types of abdominoplasty procedures. The first one is the standard tummy tuck, which entails making incisions along the bikini line, along the abdomen and on the surrounding skin of the belly button. Torn or weakened muscles and skin are stitched up, with excess fat and skin removed. Once this is done the belly button is moved in the new position of the abdomen. A mini tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat along the bottom of the tummy, leaving a curved scar on the bikini line.
An extended tummy requires much more consultation and only a selected few are qualified for a procedure like this. This entails the same procedures as a standard tummy tuck, however skin and excess fat is removed around the back as well leaving a scar along the bikini line, belly button and back. Altogether the recovery period requires 6 weeks of non activity, in which two to four of those weeks of wearing a support garment. This of course depends upon how fast you heal, which will also mean eating healthy and no smoking.
