Doctor Fish To Treat Itchy Skin

An alternative way to treat itchy skin is with the use of doctor fish. For this novel treatment, you allow a type of “live” fish to feed on the affected part of your skin. The more dead skin you have, the more these tiny fishes will come and nibble at these parts. With the dead itchy skin being eaten away, you are left with healthy and glowing skin.

Doctor fish is also known scientifically as Garra rufa. This practise of using doctor fish to treat
itchy skin came from the small towns of Kangal and Sivas in Turkey. This is where the fish are endemic. The spa in Kangal has been a psoriasis treatment centre since 1988. Through word of mouth, people from all parts of the world have been flocking here to treat various skin disorders. This is where they get their first experience with the doctor fish nibbling away at their skin. Although psoriasis is the most widely known skin disorder treated here, you can also use doctor fish to treat most other itchy conditions such as dermatitis and eczema.

Despite their small size, the doctor fish have enormous appetities, as the high 36 degrees celcius water temperature cannot produce enough nutrients for them. They get into a feeding frenzy when they come across scabby skin. The older and thicker your affected skin is, the more delicious it is to them. The fish apparently only loves dead skin. They will leave your healthy skin alone. Hence, using doctor fish to treat itchy skin is considered safe.

Here is what you should be prepared for. You need to immerse yourself or at least the affected itchy skin in the pool with the fish eight hours a day for 21 days. Before having breakfast each day, you need to drink a minimum of three glasses of healing water on an empty stomach. During this period, you are also not allowed to take other medicine or medication. Guess this is the only way you can know if this method of treatment works.

It is said that their mouths are made for licking and nibbling away the psoriatic plaques and scaly skin. The saliva in the mouths of doctor fish are the crucial element in the treatment; others also credit the selenium-rich waters (1 gram per liter concentration) of the spa plus the high altitude Turkish sunshine (ultraviolet is beneficial for skin disorders). The effects are temporary; a treatment with using doctor fish is by no means a cure. However, the results of having doctor fish to treat itchy skin can last for a few months.

Some of those who have benefitted from this treatment went on to set up their own doctor fish spas in their home countries. You can now find spas with doctor fish treatment for itchy skin in Ireland, Germany, and Austria. There are also doctor fish spas in Asia such as Japan and Taiwan. It may appear a long time for you to spend 21 days at the pool spa but you can hope to find relief from the itch that has been driving you crazy for so many years now.
