Timeshares Or Vacation Rentals-What To Do?

Posted by Luxuryva in Cruises

Timeshare resorts offer some of the world’s finest vacation facilities. If you’ve never checked out timeshares or you’re not familiar with them, it’s time to learn more. A timeshare is a resort where the property is owned by a company or a group of people who use the property for vacationing. The costs of ownership and maintenance are shared, usually by hiring a professional staff to maintain the property and arrange the scheduling and rental of the units.

The owners are usually allowed a set number of days of use every year at no additional, or modest cost. The use of the timeshare must be booked ahead and scheduled with all the other owners of the timeshare.

Some timeshares have joint use agreements with other timeshares around the country, and even around the world. Many timeshares are sold with the stipulation that the owner has one week of use per year of the timeshare. Others have more flexible arrangements. Many also allow owners to give their week of use to friends or family members, as long as the yearly maintenance fees are paid.

So why would someone want to purchase and use a timeshare? A timeshare owner is an actual owner of the property, and many people prefer to own rather than rent. Also a timeshare offers a guaranteed vacation location every year. Additionally the flexibility of being able to make an exchange offers variety. Add to that the variety of timeshares available, and it is easy to see why timeshares have become so popular.

The concept of the timeshare was introduced 40 years ago by the owner of a ski resort in France. His idea was that owning a set amount of time per year was preferable to a vacation rental - either resort or hotel. The concept caught on, not only in France but world-wide, with timeshares enjoying increasing popularity in North America. By now timeshare resorts have also spread around much of the Western world.

No matter what part of the country you live in, there are timeshare resorts available. Most timeshares will offer you a free tour and a free or reduced rate weekend stay to feel out the timeshare before you buy. This is a great way to decide whether or not a timeshare is for you.

While using your trial period, talk to a few of the timeshare owners and see how satisfied they are with their memberships. Listen to their criticism or praise to help you decide whether you want to become a member there. Whatever you decide, timeshares are great family vacation assets, so check them out carefully before making a decision.

Another option to timeshare ownership is the concept Global Resorts Network (GRN) uses. GRN runs a worldwide network of 5500 luxury resorts and cruises. Membership is purchased once for either a three year period, or for life. Members can vacation as many times as they wish every year. They only pay for the vacation time they use, and the charge is only a fraction of the going rate elsewhere. After only one or two luxury vacations, the price of GRN membership has already paid for itself.

If you’re considering a five star vacation or luxury cruise in the near future, don’t overlook the Global Resorts Network option. GRN will pay for itself very quickly and provides a vacationer with much more flexibility than a conventional timeshare purchase. The price is much cheaper than a timeshare and the GRN membership retains it’s value over time.

For example, you can allow your friends or family to use your membership, or give your parents a Christmas cruise as a gift. You can resell your membership if you wish, or you can pass on your membership to your children so your family will continue to enjoy five star vacations long after you’re gone.
