8 Reasons For Not Starting A Business

Posted by Dscottmc in Start Up

Most everyone, when asked, Wouldn’t you like to have your own business?… answer automatically, Yup. But it almost never happens. The vast majority stick to their 9 to 5 day job and site eight real, genuine, actually scary reasons why they don’t start their own business. The Internet and Libraries are full of books on How To… just about any subject under the sun on starting your own business. But, dreams are easy and change is hard. The eight (8) very valid reasons why folks don’t start: (why 8? Dunno, just hit me)

1. Lack Of Security! Don’t kid yourself. There is no security outside of yourself. A Corporation is only a piece of paper. Robert T. Kiyosaki’s, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, What the Rich Teach Their Children, is a perfect example. Everyone has her or his place.

YOU make your own security under any conditions. My dad used to always say that is what makes a great horse race, a difference of opinion.

2. They Said It Couldn’t Be Done! These folks talk to the self styled experts who will take every chance they can get to put down someone else…besides that’s how these experts get their self-esteem!…so they say it can’t be done. One variation of this theme is, Well, if it is that good, then someone else has already done it!

When we invented worldwide billing within the phone itself, they said, If it’s so good, someone has already thought of it. Electronic automated cellular programming, Over the air programming, anti-fraud devices, each one we were told, Can’t be done! Now my three boys have invented a technology that eliminates credit card fraud, identity fraud. It’s fully patented and will be ready for production by the end of the year and still people will say today, Impossible!

3. Not Enough Money! This is a great one! Actually, it applies to EVERYONE and every business, if you let it. It doesn’t take a lot of money to start a business, just a valid market…meaning an active, rabid customer! Sell one widget, make $1. Rinse and repeat. double your efforts. There is never enough money. Nearly half of the INC. 500 started with less than $500! Bootstrapping is in!

4. No Time! Another great one! Always true. Time is not elastic. It’s not your time that is holding you back, but what you choose to do with the time you have! A startup business requires unusual sacrifices and requires total commitment. Find a good time management system and stick to it. Plan the next day the night before. A good rule of thumb is, Work expands to fill the time alloted for it.

5. My Family Doesn’t Support Me! Now this is a tough one. Nothing is worth losing your family for! Look at compromise such that everyone benefits. Your family has to be a team in this effort or no result is worth the effort! If you can convince any lender to go with you, you can convince your family! Give them a voice.

6. No Benefits! I’ll have to give up my benefits! (ooh, give me a break!) OK, I caved in on #4 above, but Benefits? C’mon! Each Entrepreneur makes his own benefits. That is what it is all about. End of story. Can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

7. Fear! Sooner or later each of us has at least one time they are stricken with fear. Even Elleson was in extreme fear, once, when his mom didn’t come home…a few hours late! Starting a business is no cakewalk, but fear can hone your edges. It can motivate you, keep you on the right path and keep your integrity in tact…until your backbone catches up!

Face Your fears. Walk into them. They are just imagined future events. Fear is an event lived twice, once as a fear and once in reality. Don’t allow time for both. My Dad said: Don’t die until you’re dead! You’re really OK, just dig in.

8. Lack Of Clear Vision! In the absence of clearly defined goals we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia and ultimately become enslaved by it.

The Disadvantages Of Parents Working At Home And How To Effectively Get Things Completed

Posted by Kevin03 in Start Up

A certain stressful process is dealing with business at home whilst juggling children. It is generally a case of the parents ensuring that the children are amused so that they can complete some work, or the children distract the parents which makes their work much more difficult.

It is extremely challenging trying to keep children entertained and busy, especially if they are young. It is difficult enough for parents to attend to things in the home, never mind looking after children also. Children require a great deal of attention, and this is something that they should certainly be given.

Listed below are some points which will help parents and children to take advantage of each and every day whilst you are working at home.

1. One good tip is to get up earlier than the children. By doing this you will have an hour to prepare your day ahead.

2. When your children do wake up, enjoy this time with them. This is the time that children will enjoy loving and snuggling up to their parents. Eat breakfast together, as this it important for young children.

3. Ensure that the children are busy. Ensure that they have a routine of fun things to do and that you inform them that you need to work.

4. Those people that can afford a babysitter to help with the children find it much easier to undertake their work at home. It is not necessary to hire a babysitter for hours a day, every day of the week. A few hours during the week will give the parents a sufficient amount of time to concentrate on their work without interruptions.

5. Work flexible hours. Set yourself certain times of the day to do your work such as when the children are having their afternoon nap, or when they are happily playing.

6. Take your children to the park and allow them to play, whilst you sit on the park bench with your briefcase or laptop and undergo some work.

7. You could even involve your children with your work. They love to be little helpers to their parents, so you could get them to paper clip papers together, or hole punch papers and place them in a file. Of course ensure that they are old enough to not place paper clips in their mouths, or hole punch their fingers.

8. Tidy up your day once the children have gone to bed.

9. Ensure that your children come first. The choice was yours to work at home so that you can be with your children. Enjoy the chance to give them a kiss or a cuddle.

10. Enjoy your time working at home and being with your children. After all, all of the hard work that you are doing is for them at the end of the day.

Whatever tactics you decide to use when undertaking work at home, it is imperative that your children get priority over business. The idea of working at home is so that you can spend more time with the family. Do not become stressed by your business, your children will feel this and become stressed too. Enjoy your time at home with your children.

Equipment Leasing Versus Direct Purchase And Cash Loans

Posted by Theengineer in Start Up

Old time business managers would probably recommend complete ownership of all office equipment when starting a business. It was believed, at a time, that businesses should operate with zero debt and that operators are required to be able to immediately afford all tools for the trade even before they even think of venturing into business.

Times have changed. Economies have changed. Financing in the modern world has revolutionized the business owner’s view on investment and cash management. Among these changes include the introduction and promotion of equipment leasing.

The approach to acquiring the necessary operational equipment like machinery, transportation, office equipment and the like is done more strategically nowadays. Business operators now try to balance liquidity of the businesses, obsolescence of equipment and overall efficiency of the business.

There are many advantages to equipment leasing. First is the conservation of capital. Through leasing, operating capital is saved for use on other profit-generating expenditures that need funding. In the tight economic environment we work amidst today, cash is required to cover expenses like marketing, research and even product development.

There is also the element of time. Acquiring an equipment lease is faster and ultimately more economical. Less documentation and qualification requirements are needed unlike bank loans that need several legal documentation, credit investigation and verification. For start up businesses, credit histories can fall short of the usual 2-3 year basis that is preferred by lending institutions.

The issue on down payment is also worthy to mention. Purchasing decisions of costly equipment are also influenced by the required down payment factor. Sometimes, a lesser quality equipment is settled for because of the initial cash outlay needed. In Finance Leasing, no down payment is required, making it easier for operators to get hold of the optimum equipment they need.

Once the equipment is obtained, there is also the matter of maintenance. In many equipment leasing arrangements, repair and preventive maintenance of the leased equipment is included free of charge. Adding up all these savings throughout the term of the lease will be quite significant.

Effects of economic trends to interest rates can largely impact adjustable rate mortgages. By availing of fixed monthly lease payments, lessees are spared from effects of inflation and will also greatly assist in business budget forecasts and allocations.

Cancellation of lease or even delay in lease payments is sometimes accommodated without penalty. This is a benefit that cannot be derived from traditional cash loans.

Another feature of equipment leasing that proves highly beneficial to any business operator is the ability to allow trade-ins or equipment upgrades. This means that the operator is not bound to the equipment beyond its active lifespan. Equipments go obsolete after some time and may need to be replaced to be up to date with technology. Leasing allows this replacement with the least cost.

Lastly, from a finance manager’s point of view, leasing is better than cash loans. Because it is not considered as a debt and is actually pre-tax, leasing makes the equity-to-debt ratio much more attractive. Payments may also be written off for tax purposes.

Tips On Starting A Home-Based Business

Posted by Kevin03 in Start Up

If you want to start a business from home, it’s a good alternative to working a 9 to 5 job, 5 days a week. It’s increasingly popular these days to make money online as people begin to think differently about what work means. Because everything is beginning to cost more, more people are using home-based businesses to take charge of their financial situations. When people set up businesses from home, they can earn an income and get a better balance between life and work at the same time.

The Internet is a good source for home-based business opportunities. There are a lot of ways to make money online legitimately. However, there are also a lot of scams out there that simply don’t deliver what they promise. Therefore, you need to be careful to check out credentials before you pay for anything that’s going to simply empty your wallet but not give you anything for your hard-earned cash.

Because the Internet has so many opportunities, it might be hard to decide which one is best for you. How should you get started, and which is the best opportunity to choose? Here are some things to think about as you make your decisions.

Some of the best and quickest ways to earn income with your own home-based business include the following:

Selling Other People’s Products through Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs can be a way to start your own home-based business quickly and easily. With affiliate programs, you make money by promoting other people’s products or services. When you sell other people’s products, you’ll receive a commission. This can vary greatly, and will depend on the company you choose and the products or services you sell. Check each company you consider out and make sure the programs themselves are legitimate (and the commissions are both adequate and given at reasonable enough level that you earn money with relatively low volume standards). In addition, of course, the products or services you sell should be something you believe in and are comfortable promoting.

With affiliate-based programs, you’ll need to lay out little to no cash to get started. Usually, you’ll simply need to pay for your website and ongoing promotions.

With these programs, you advertise your website and promote the products and services you sell. Aim for as high a sales level as possible, so that your commission checks steadily increase in amount.

Private-Label Resell Rights Products

As with affiliate programs, products whereby you acquire private-label resell rights have all by already been created. Your job, again, is to sell them. However, you claim ownership and market them as your own. A major advantage to this is that you don’t have to create your own products or services and can start your business very quickly.

Resell Rights Products

As with private-label resell rights products, these products have already been created in are available to anyone to sell who wants to pay for the resell rights to market them. Again, this can be advantageous because you can market a product that has already been created. These may also come with a website so that you’ll be in business for yourself very quickly.

Create Your Own Product

Of course, perhaps the most advantageous way to get into business for yourself is to create your own product. This sounds harder than it really needs to be, in a lot of cases. Chances are that you know a lot about something you merely consider a hobby or something you do “for fun.” Nonetheless, if you like it and enjoy it, you can put this information and expertise in an e-book or product to sell. You then sell this product as your own (which, of course, you have created yourself), and presto. You are ready to begin making money from your own business with a product you have created yourself.

These are just some ways that you can begin to earn money online with your own home-based business. When you work from home, you can generate extra income and perhaps even quite a lot of money. These methods have been proven to work. Use one or more of them to become successful yourself.

Would You Like More Freedom? The Solution May Be A Business From Home

Posted by Kevin03 in Start Up

If you’ve ever wanted to make some extra money for things you’ve wanted without having to worry about where the money’s going to come from, you have company. Most people want to do this. In fact, a lot of people want extra money to take care of emergencies they have, to take a family vacation or second honeymoon, or to buy a new car.

However, if you think your only solution is to work an extra part-time job to make ends meet, or that you won’t have time to spend with your friends and family, that’s not necessarily true. In fact, consider starting your own online business from home to make extra money and perhaps even switch from your current 9-to-5 job someday. Of course, you probably are asking the question, “Is it really possible to make a good living with an online business from home?” And the answer is yes, absolutely.

Many online businesses done from home can give you the necessary income to ensure you have financial freedom. However, you have to make sure you protect yourself and don’t fall for any scams. Research any online business you’re considering thoroughly. It’s easy to do this by simply entering search terms into any of the major search engines to check them out. You can also visit forums online that deal with online businesses and participate in a few to see which programs are legitimate. You can also ask questions to make sure you’re getting into the right business for you. In addition, you’ll be able to ask questions of those who have already tried the online programs so that you can benefit from their experiences by staying away from scams and only going for those that will give you positive results.

There are many honest, legitimate ways to start a business from home. However, there are also a lot of scams where the only purpose is to take your money. You should not let these scams dissuade you from pursuing your most ardent dreams. Rather, you should do your homework and find honest and legitimate businesses you can participate in from home. Remember that one of the most glaring differences between legitimate businesses and scams is that these scams will sound too good to be true.

If a company is legitimate, it will be happy to communicate with you either by e-mail or telephone. If you can’t get honest answers to the questions you want to ask, go elsewhere. You should also able to talk to a real person who will answer every question you ask honestly and directly. Even though some responses may take a day or so, you should still get an honest answer from a real person. In addition, stay away from businesses that require you to pay a lot of money for start up. Most likely, these businesses are scams that simply want to take your money.

Therefore, don’t ask yourself, “Can I make money with an online business from home?” Instead, realize that you can get started on your path to financial freedom with an honest, legitimate online business. If you look carefully and do your homework, there’s no reason you can’t find one that will give you everything you want.

To get started, do thorough research on online businesses that interest you. Don’t fall for scams, but do thoroughly investigate and consider honest, legitimate businesses that can truly make you the money you deserve.

5 Tips For The Novice Internet Marketer

Posted by Vrobbins in Start Up

As with any new business, if you’re just starting out in internet marketing, you are probably overwhelmed with how much you have to do. If you have been doing any research online, you are probably also overwhelmed with the amount of resources and advice available to you on how to get started. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you move forward in your new venture.

Focus on a high quality internet presence first.

You will be tempted to jump ahead to making money as quickly as you can (who doesn’t want that?), but you need to build your internet presence first. Remember, the more ways that people can find you and what you have to offer, the better. If you already have a website, that’s great. If not, you should get one started as soon as possible. Also consider getting a presence on some social networking sites (my space, etc.) and writing some articles for sites like Squidoo and Hubpages. You will include links to your main website or whatever sites you are using to generate income. The wider you cast your net, the more likely you are to catch a fish (so to speak).

Provide high quality content, rather than a sales pitch.

Most people who are new to internet marketing make the mistake of writing everything like a sales pitch. Not only is that a real turn off for people, but it actually makes it more difficult for them to determine if you have something they really want and need. Provide solid, useful, free information about your niche topic. People are more likely to buy from people they trust. You can develop trust and respect from your audience by establishing yourself as an expert in your field by providing high quality content.

Don’t spend a lot of money in the first 90 days.

As you surf all of the resources available to you as an internet marketer, you will be tempted to spend a bunch of money for this service or that. There are hundreds of e-books, online money-making systems, etc. If you start buying them at the beginning of your journey, you’ll find that you are even more overwhelmed with “advice” and that you have spent more money that you need to spend. Focus on free (or very inexpensive) services in the beginning until you have your internet presence developed. Once your foundation is built, you will have enough experience to start shopping for the online services that will benefit you the most.

Keep an open mind.

The most important characteristic of an entrepreneur is that he remains open to opportunity, even from unexpected sources. If someone tells you that he has the best way of doing something and that it is the only way you should do it, be very wary. Also, you may have jumped into internet marketing because you became intrigued by some affiliate programs or a particular network marketing opportunity, but don’t have to limit yourself to the opportunity that brought you here. You may find that the product or service that really makes you the best money is not the one your started with at all.

Treat your new internet marketing business like a real job.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. You will have to work to make your internet marketing business successful. You will have to spend time on it. In the beginning, schedule work hours for yourself just like you would schedule a job. If you are planning to put in a part-time effort of 10 hours per week, put those hours on your calendar. If you are planning on working more or less hours, that’s fine, but schedule it. Make sure your time is spent productively and that you do something each day to move closer toward your goal of making an excellent income through internet marketing.
