Mercury Mariner Hybrid Interior And Exterior Features

Posted by Tcalkins99 in Cars and Trucks

SUVs have been known to look refined and elegant, and most importantly visually appealing. At first sight, the casual observer will find it eye-catching and be immediately intrigued with this vehicle. When you look at the Mariner your eyes will be drawn to the satin-aluminum grille that is common with vehicles by this company, giving the front end a different look from similarly styled vehicles. The head lights, tail lights, side panels and rear bumper are also eye catching and unique to the Mariner.

The entire exterior of the Mercury Mariner Hybrid follows the same theme as all of the other vehicles in the Mercury line. Each vehicle has clean lines that can be considered contemporary. The design is modern, sophisticated, and very urban. It easily stands out in a crowd of other compact SUVs, classy, elegant, but not showy.

The Mariner also sports other exterior qualities that are distinct to this SUV. The rear-quarter window of the driver’s side window has a built-in air ventilation unit that is designed to help manage the temperature of the battery pack on power train. The badges stating that the vehicle is a hybrid are mounted discretely on the vehicle so as not to seem boasting and of course, it has clearly defined and identifiable 16″ wheels that just simply sing down the highway. To finish off the classy design of this hybrid SUV, consumers will notice the door handles are integrated and color matched to the rest of the vehicle. The sides have protective bumpers and cladding, and the overall finish is in satin aluminum with the distinct mercury tail lamps that have been found in the Ford Monterey and Mountaineer minivans.

The Inside

If consumers are impressed by the outside of the Mercury Mariner, then they will like the inside just as much if not more. The entire cabin of this hybrid has been engineered in order to provide the occupants maximum comfort. In addition to the comfort factor of the driver and occupants - and that’s not even mentioning all the options yet - the SUV was also equipped with serious cargo space, making sure that there was plenty of room to haul everything from groceries to luggage and back again.

The inside of this vehicle has an atmosphere all its own. Ford threw out the notion that SUV hybrids don’t have to comfortable and less appealing. Most vehicles today are being manufactured to appeal to that aspect of the human mind. Taking that into account the door trim is lighted and the seats are two-tone. Chrome door handles and bright speaker grilles add to the elegant styling. The chrome and satin aluminum finishes on the outside is also evident on the inside in addition to Sappele wood grain finishing on the center console and stack.

The multi-functioning message center instrument cluster is handy and one of the newer features being added to the SUVs. This message center tells the driver mileage, remaining gas, oil life and trip statistics at the touch of a button. There is also a battery life indicator that gives information about the electrical current flow while driving as well as during the braking process. Plus it tells the driver what the current from the batter to the electric motor is doing while the engine is running on gasoline.

The Mariner has a great audio and navigation system inside of it as well. A four inch LCD display shows the energy flow as it travels between the gas and electric motors, the battery itself, and the wheels. Graphics are used on the monitor, enabling drivers to see quite a bit with a quick glance. It shows how well the regenerative braking system works, the state of the electric and gas engines, and how they hybrid drives are operating.

Other interior amenities include heated front seats, side mirrors, leather seating surfaces - two-toned at that - and reverse sensing system. The safety package that comes equipped standard on the Mercury Mariner SUV Hybrid include driver and passenger side airbags, safety belts, rollover sensors, and side curtains with air bags.

Hard Mounted Or Throw Over Motorcycle Saddlebags

Posted by Nodoubtmarketing in Motorcycles

Motorcycle saddlebags have been around for more then 50 years. They are great for storing supplies for long trips. From everything like purses, tools, first aid kits, drinks and snacks, to spare helmets and cleaning supplies for your bike. There are so many uses for motorcycle saddlebags, as very few of the necessary items for long trips or even trips to the local supermarket actually fit in the pockets of bikers. In addition, there are a few items that should always be carried by bikers, and the pockets won’t accommodate them all, but motorcycle saddlebags will. With all the motorcycle saddlebags out there, what sets them apart? There are two main types of motorcycle saddlebags. There are hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags, and there are throw over motorcycle saddlebags.

Hard Mounted Motorcycle Saddlebags

For more stability, these hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags are definitely in the lead in this area. In the 1950’s a group of bikers drilled holes in their fenders to attach the motorcycle saddlebags. This prevented them from flying off and flapping around. After some major motorcycle manufacturers got wind of the new trend, they saw how popular it was among the bikers. Instead of having the bikers drill holes into their fenders, they made mounting for motorcycle saddlebags. These hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags are now custom on many bikes, and can be added to many more. If you add these hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags to a package with a new motorcycle, you might end up paying more then you would if you added them yourself. The dealer marks it up when they are adding it to the accessories. Now the question is whether you want hard leather or soft leather. Hard leather provides better protection for your items then the soft leather motorcycle saddlebags because the hard leather would resist any objects bumping into them better then the soft leather motorcycle saddlebags. These generally have mounting brackets to keep them off the wheels and other vital motorcycle parts.

Throw Over Motorcycle Saddlebags

The advantage of throw over motorcycle saddlebags is that it is not necessary to make any modifications to the motorcycle, whereas hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags required modifications that have quickly been included by most manufacturers. Throw over motorcycle saddlebags are like the name says attached by throwing them over the seat of the motorcycle. Generally they go in front of the signal flasher and over the stocks. Many times these types of motorcycle saddlebags require removing the seat to install the throw over motorcycle saddlebags. These types of motorcycle saddlebags are generally harder to install, but they are traditional types of motorcycle saddlebags. While the hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags are easier and more sturdy, the throw over motorcycle saddlebags are the motorcycle saddlebags of the original bikers, before the hard mounted motorcycle saddlebags were designed. While some bikers or motorcycle enthusiasts may be daunted at the thought of the work involved in installing throw over motorcycle saddlebags, some true bikers revel in the ability to work with their hands to make something all their own.

Vauxhall, Fiercely Fighting The Competition

Posted by Prettyone in Cars and Trucks

The cars in Vauxhall dealers today are certainly focussed towards the more budget end of the market. Increasingly however, car manufacturers in the Far East have been able to bring cars to the market that fulfil the budget criteria far more effectively than Vauxhall. This has meant that the company has to produce vehicles that are not only cost effective, but stylish enough to quell the rising competition from far eastern manufacturers. This has meant that the cars present in Vauxhall dealers must be above all, competitive.

In terms of small cars Vauxhall have marketed the Corsa for a number of years, competition wise, it must stand up to the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra, as well as other small cars available on the market. While the Corsa is a popular model thanks to dealers giving insurance deals with purchases as well as financial credit schemes it is still facing a tough sales battle. However, it must compete in one of the most hotly contested sectors in the motoring industry; small cars must not only be affordable, but must be attractive to younger drivers, fuel efficient and large enough to carry four adults whilst keeping an aesthetic appeal. With so many cars in the sector such as the Fiat 500, the Renault Clio and the Peugeot 206, this is one of the major battlefields for dealers.

The small city run around is definitely a popular sector, nearly as popular however is the small family car market. Vauxhall dealers have the Astra in this classification and have attempted to market this in a way that attracts drivers who love the driving experience. With a panoramic windscreen it is now promoted as a touring car as well as a family run around. Competition in this sector is once again fierce, the Audi A3 and Peugeot 307 are both competitors whilst rivals Ford have the Focus, regarded to be one of the country’s most popular cars. Ultimately in this part of the market, a focus on family comfort and fuel economy is required to produce a car that flies from the forecourts of dealers.

Another hotly contested car classification is the large family/executive car. Vauxhall dealers are currently peddling the newest of the cars in the range, the Insignia. This is a radically designed car that is a step away from past chassis and model designs. In terms of competition, Ford’s Mondeo and Peugeot’s 406 can be deemed the closest rivals in terms of price but in this sector there are more costly cars such as the BMW 5 and 6 Series, the Mercedes C Class and the Audi A6 and A8. While these German cars tend to set the benchmark for this part of the market, through effective design and development it will be possible for Vauxhall to capture the budget end of this sector.

MPVs have been popular with larger families now for over a decade. The archetypal model was the Renault Espace but in the modern era the Vauxhall Meriva and Zafira have done much to lead the sector in terms of development and popularity. To succeed in this sector, having a focus upon accommodating family needs and ensuring all passengers are comfortable will result in a successful car.

These models do not make up the entirety of the range present on the forecourts of dealers. They do show however that Vauxhall are attempting to remain at the cutting edge in a motoring industry that is more cutthroat than ever.

Motoring industry expert Thomas Pretty looks at the cars on the forecourts of Vauxhall dealers and how they are competitive in a number of disparate market sectors.

G8 - Gas Emissions By Another Name

Posted by Carhub in Cars and Trucks

During the week starting on Monday 7th. July until Wednesday the 9th.2008 the annual junket of the G8 countries met in Japan to discuss among other items global warming mainly caused by increasing carbon gas emissions from industry, power stations and transport.

These discussions on climate change have been ongoing annually since the Kyoto talks in 1997 and we, the general public, should be asking ourselves what results have been forthcoming over the years since they began; especially so since for this years meeting the security costs alone will be 141.8 million pounds sterling (euro 113 million) (source Reuters 03/07/08) compared to last years 89.5 million pounds sterling when the junket was held in Germany.

How sensible do we think it is to spend in only 2 years the sum of 231.3 million pounds sterling on security alone, plus of course you have to add the expenses for flying delegates from approx. 180 countries to Japan, creating all those carbon footprints, plus also all the accommodation costs etc. etc. The total cost to us taxpayers for the 2 years must be in excess of 500 million ponds sterling, and for what result?

The research group ECOFYS stated in a study done for the environmental group WWF and Allianz that the USA, Canada and Russia had failed the test in climate performance to reduce emissions. The USA had failed the tests in 11 out of 12 categories and the 3 countries had all received red ratings and were at the bottom of the table which showed that ALL the G8 countries had failed to match their words with deeds.

Italy and Japan also received red ratings with the comment that there are few national measures in place to cut emissions. The 3 countries of the G8 at the top of the scorecard were Britain, France and Germany but were only awarded yellow ratings which meant overall that none of the G8 countries were awarded the green rating, it is only fair to state that Britain and France did receive praise for getting their emissions below the Kyoto target figures.

So after 11 years of emitting verbal gas at these G8 meetings where are we, what achievements have there been? What will be achieved this year? It is reckoned not much as the good old US of A has never signed the original Kyoto agreement, the oilman/cowboy President in charge at present is most unlikely to alter his stance and offend his oil industry friends in this his last year of presidency which means we have to wait for next years meeting to find out if the U.S., now questionably the second largest polluter in the world behind China (who incidentally are not in the G8), has a change of policy.

We, the general public, can show these mindless, unthinking, environmentally unfriendly so called politicians (interesting is it not that according to Dictionary.com a politician is described as a seeker or holder of public office, who is more concerned about winning favour or retaining power than about maintaining principles, says it all does it not, could not have put it better myself.)

How do we show them? Simple, very, very simple. Fit a water to fuel conversion system to your car/vehicle. It cuts down to a minimum exhaust carbon gas emissions, it helps to maintain a cleaner environment, is a healthy solution to prolonged engine life, can vastly increase your m.p.g. while reducing the cost per litre/gallon by at least 30-60%, simple innit, cut carbon gas emissions, save the environment and save money at the same time.

We are not politicians but we can see the sense in that, why is it they cannot?

Bill is now retired but as a keen motorist has driven on most continents of the world and has a keen interest in environmental issues, these account for only a couple of his many varied interests. For further info on the Water4gas fuel conversion system please visit..http://www.the-car-hub.co.uk/

The Best Way To Replace Your Car

Posted by Sparta in Cars and Trucks

The used car market is one of the few that have seen a boost with this credit crunch. At a time when people are looking to save money and only buying the necessities of life, and cars come under that category, many industries are feeling the pinch of people withholding finances and directing them towards absolute essentials. Those feeling this withdrawal of disposable income are new car dealers.

Cars have become one of life’s necessities and are no longer a luxury. But when is there ever a good time to buy a new car?

Unless you are a fully paid up member of that elite club of the uber rich, then a new car that doesn’t belong to a company fleet is always going to be one of those one off, probably spur of the moment buys.

However, given the economics of the day, even spur of the moment purchases are being sharply reigned in and car dealers are feeling it with the empty show rooms and depleted bank accounts.

Not so for the used car dealers. Everybody needs a reliable form of transport and cars are certainly something that needs keeping on top if they are to stay reliable. Cars are not built like they used to be. Everything is meant to be a disposable commodity these days and there will come a time when that car simply gives up on you. Replacing it can be difficult and costly.

So, you have three options. Buy brand new, buy second hand from a private seller or buy from a used car dealer.

As already discussed, the brand new option is for those who have more money than they need. These people, today, are few and far between and would have no need of this article. Buying second hand from a private seller is an option and it is usually the cheapest one.
However, it is also the riskiest. Scams are set up all around the country for so-called ‘private’ sellers to pass on cars that have been stolen or ‘cut and shut’ vehicles which are extremely dangerous.

False documents are used to pass the car on immediately and before you know it, you’re pulled over by the boys in blue for driving a stolen vehicle, you find your documents are false and you lose your car and your money. Try to go back to the people you purchased the car from and you find that they have disappeared. Of course, this is not always the case and you can bag yourself a bargain from a private seller if you know what you are looking for. Just remember, the moment you drive that car away you have no recompense whatsoever for any problems you find with it after that date.

Buying from a used car dealer is a little more expensive but you get more security for your money. Certain checks have to be made on the car before it can be legitimately sold and a guarantee covering the basics will be made available as well as having the added luxury of a thorough clean!

If anything should go wrong with your car in the first three to six months, you can return it and get it sorted out quite promptly. Checks can be made, by the used car dealer and by yourself, to ensure you are getting a legitimate used car with genuine paperwork. So, it would appear that this is the safest option when replacing your car, particularly during times of hardship.

Expert buyer Catherine Harvey looks at the best option between new car, used car from a garage or private used car.
