Maintaining Your High Performance Electrical System

Posted by Coronas44 in Cars and Trucks

On any automobile, the condition of the electrical system goes a long way towards keeping your performance at the most advantageous level. This system is called upon to do a lot when it comes to keeping your ride running. In an older motor vehicle, the electrical system has to keep energy flowing to the ignition and spark plugs, as well as run all of the cars accessories. In a modern car, extra strain is added by the fact that the cars computer needs a stable stream of power, not to mention the demands of a massive amount of sensors.

When racing, the cars engine is under maximum load for a fairly considerable length of time. This means that if the electrical system is not in the very best shape, you could be looking at power loss, hesitation, and strange behavior at the worst possible time. No one wants to pull out to pass someone only to have a cylinder misfire, or experience the agony of the ignition shutting off halfway down a quarter-mile run. How can you avoid these types of problems dudes?

The first thing to do is make sure your alternator is up to the job of generating the power you require while racing. The alternator runs off a belt from the engine and it is intended to put out enough power to not only charge the battery but also keep the motor running. If you have added on a more powerful ignition, or a new stand-alone engine management system, then your stock alternator might not be able to keep up with the electrical demands your car is making. Upgrading to a larger alternator will give your car more amps to divide amongst the various electrical components that are needed while running at full throttle.

The next item you should check? Your connection points. Increased electrical demands means more heat being created at each junction where wires connect to each other, to the battery, or to the chassis. Over time this heat can damage connections or burn them out, leaving them blackened or scored. This heat degrades the ability of a connection to properly transmit the power your engine needs. Not only that, but solenoids can also be burned out completely by this extreme electrical heat. If you notice that certain connections are consistently being affected, then you can try to upgrade them to a gauge of wire with a greater capacity. You might also want to consider evaluating your wiring as a whole to see why certain points are falling victim to more heat than others.

A further way to reduce the strain on your electrical system while racing is to remove accessories that you don’t really need. Stereo system, air conditioner, power windows and door locks? These extras are not going to help you make horsepower out on the track, and their use while racing is just going to put stress on your alternator. Ripping them out or shutting them down while you are racing will help keep the electrical system cool and probably pick you up a few seconds over the course of the race.

Popular Formula D Tire Manufacturers

Posted by Rdokoye in Cars and Trucks

Sport fans tend to follow the sponsors of their favourite team or player. The same can be said with auto racing; the only difference is that these players are referred to as drivers. In fact, with auto racing, this is most commonly seen with NASCAR. It has been said that NASCAR has the largest group of loyal fans. Fans not only support the sponsors of their favourite drivers, but they also tend to purchase merchandise or services from them. The same can be said with Formula Drifting.

Formula Drifting is a sport that is relatively new to the United States. Despite the fact that the first professional event was held in 2004, the sport still has quite the fan following. Like many NASCAR fans, these fans are loyal. That is why a large number of sponsors, also commonly referred to as product manufacturers have made the decision to become involved with the sport. When it comes to Formula D, the sponsors that most often first come to mind are tire manufacturers.

Tire manufacturers do not just get their name on a driver’s uniform, but they also provide that driver with tires. With Formula D, the tires used are extremely important. In fact, to create a drift the tires need to loose tractions with the ground. This essentially helps to create the perfect drift. Since tires are so important to the sport of drifting, there are a large number of tire manufacturers who have inserted themselves into the sport. In fact, it has been noted that Formula D has the most tire manufacturer sponsors of any other motor sport; which includes NASCAR.

Nitto Tire is one of the many tire manufacturers that is involved with Formula Drifting. This manufacturer, like many other tire manufacturers, makes tires for all different vehicles and all different driving conditions. While they are well known for their tires for traditional vehicles, such as cars, SUV, and trucks, Nitto Tire is most well known for its racing tires. One of these tires includes the NT 555 RII. This type of tire is used primarily with road racing and other competitive sports, such as Formula D.

BF Goodrich Tire is another tire manufacturer that participates in Formula Drifting. This tire manufacturer is one of the most well known manufacturers in the United States. As with Nitto Tires, BG Goodrich Tires has a wide variety of different tires, available for all different uses. When it comes to sports cars and Formula Drifting, quite a few BF Goodrich Tires are ideal for the sport.

Maxxis Tires, another sponsor and tire manufacturer involved in Formula D, is also a well known tire manufacturer. Although they are not as well known to most everyday individuals, they are well known to those involved in auto sports, such as auto racing or Formula Drifting. In fact, most of Maxxis Tire’s focus is placed on auto sports, including Formula Drifting.

Perhaps, out of all of the tire manufacturers and sponsors, for Formula Drifting, Bridgestone is the most well known. Bridgestone’s tires are not only used in Formula D, but other motor sports as well. These additional sports include, but are not limited to, Formula 1, supercross racing, and monster truck racing. Bridgestone is not just popular among racing, but it is a company that is known by just about everyone. In fact, there is even a chance that you have Bridgestone tires on your personal vehicle.

In addition to the above mentioned tire manufacturers, Toyo Tires, Falken Tires, Cooper Tires, and Dunlop Tires are also Formula D sponsors. To add interest or extra excitement to your next Formula D event, keep an eye on the tires being used. While all of these tire manufacturers come highly recommended, you will often find that the tires used makes all the difference in the world.

LHD Cars Are They On The Wrong Side Of The Road

Posted by Redgsr in Cars and Trucks

It might be a convenience that many would enjoy if the rules of the road were the same no matter what country you were visiting. This could also keep it from being so confusing to individuals when it comes to visiting other countries that use the left hand drive cars, especially if they are more comfortable in driving the right hand drive cars. The reality is however, that there are many countries who have opposite rules of the road.

Many years ago, archaeologists in England made a very interesting discovery. They happened upon a well-preserved path that had been continuously used for traveling by horses. By carefully studying the path, the archaeologists found that it was very clear that the riders that were riding these horses would normally tend to travel on the left side of the path. It was also found that these riders would tend to steer their horses by using their left hands.

The tradition of both the horses that were ridden, and the vehicles that were driven, driving to the left has remained the same throughout many centuries in England. During the 1700s a law was ultimately passed that would secure this driving preference. This law was called the Highway Act 1773, and it states that all traffic is to keep to the left when they are driving on the roads.

The United States also shared this preference of using left hand traffic, but then it was switched to using right hand traffic at about the same time period that England passed the law of the Highway Act 1773. The setup that was used for the horse-driven freight wagons is essentially what ended up prompting this change to take place into using right hand traffic. This preference of driving is still in effect to this day.

There are many places all around the world, as well as a majority of all the countries that prefer using the style of automobiles that are left hand drive cars, yet they prefer using right-hand traffic. There are some countries however that uses left hand traffic along with the use of left hand drive cars.

There are some countries that will allow its citizens to have the right in being able to choose which type of vehicle they would prefer to drive. They have the benefit in being able to decide if they would prefer to drive either a left hand drive car, or the right hand drive cars. The United Kingdom essentially uses the left hand drive cars, but there are some of its individuals that take advantage of being able to choose from a variety of European import vehicles that are right-hand drive vehicles.

Then, there are other countries that have banned the use altogether of its citizens being able to use any automobiles that have the wrong-side steering wheels. This could be perhaps due to the tremendous amount of confusion that it can create for the country’s normal flow of traffic.

Even with the variety of options and different rules of various countries, the left hand drive cars still remain the most popular and preferred choice for a majority of individuals all around the world today. A majority of the automobile manufacturers that are responsible for making both the left hand drive cars, as well as the right hand drive cars, still prefer making and producing the left hand drive automobiles.

Answers To Frequently Asked Questions About Running Your Car On Water

Posted by Jmurph20 in Cars and Trucks

With gas prices as high as they are people are looking for ways to ease the pain at the pump. Until significant technological advances are made that are also economical, some inventive solution must be the answer to this problem. There have been many innovations made by creative people, and this article describes one of them.

How Does It Work?
Simple science is involved to run your car on water. The electricity from the car battery is used to split water into HHO(2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen). This is called Hydroxy.HHO offers the atomic power of hydrogen, while keeping the stability of water. One quart of water provides over 1800 gallons of this Brown’s gas to run your car on water.

What Are the Benefits?
Hydroxy provides good energy content and burns smoothly to an end product of water. Performing a do-it-yourself conversion to run your car on water can significantly improve the emissions quality of your car. To run your car on water only a small amount of water is actually needed to last you with burnable fuel for months. This drastically improves the fuel efficiency of your car, which saves you money. One more good thing is that the conversion is reversible so it will not void your car manufacturer’s warranty therefore, it simply acts as an accessory that noticeably increases your fuel efficiency. Run your car on water kits are easy to install and remove. This process works on gas or diesel engine cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs.

What are the Costs?
The costs associated with a kit to run your car on water are buying a conversion guide and raw materials. Conversion guides typically offer 90 pages of detailed instruction and are easy to follow. The raw materials can be found at hardware and auto parts stores and cost no more than $60.

Is it Safe?
The process to run your car on water is safe because combustible gas is taken out as needed and burned steadily from water. The safe set-up of the conversion kit makes hydrogen as your car needs it, rather than using large storage tanks of pure hydrogen (highly flammable). There have been thousands of safely converted cars without any incidents or issues. This is proof that the technology to run your car on water is out there and works. Industry gurus estimate that it’s only a matter of time before the technology of running your car on water is standard for future vehicles.

How Much Money Will You Save?
If you run your car on water, you can easily save $110 per month. Doing the math, that is well over $1000 per year.

The Benefits Of Left Hand Drive Cars

Posted by Redgsr in Cars and Trucks

When you are left handed, you are simply used to looking at the world through a right-handed person’s eyes. Everything has been created with them in mind. However, left handed people do make up approximately ten percent of the world’s population. That’s a lot of left-handers out there, trying to deal with this righthanded world. Left-handed people are also likely to have high I.Q.s, so they have become quite smart at adapting to the world. One of the biggest adaptations is the automobile.

However, many automobile manufacturers are responding to the needs of left-handed people and are creating left-handed cars. These left-handed cars are quite popular with this segment of the population. For those of us who are right handed, think for a moment if everything in your car was set up in the exact reverse position that it was. That you were expected to make at times split second decisions with your nondominent hand. This is a very difficult and frustrating position to put anyone in.

Some of the most popular left-handed cars include Ford, BMW, Volkswagen and Nissan. These automobile manufacturers have created a number of models with a left-handed version. For Ford these include: Ford Focus, Ford Galaxy and Ford Fusion. For BMW these include: BMW 118, BMW 320, BMW M5. For Volkswagen these include: Volkswagen Eos, Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen New Beetle. For Nissan these include: Nissan Almera, Nissan Murano, Nissan Pathfinder. One can easily see that left handed people can now own a luxury car, a mid-sized car, a moderately priced car and a car that is very safety conscious. It is ideal that left-handed drivers are offered great choices for their automobiles. Left handed drivers can choose many popular cars that we know and love to drive, for all of the popular reasons that other drivers select them.

One might think that offering left-handed cars might reduce the number of accidents. When someone is forced to drive with their non-dominant hand, this must be challenging. At times, this could be the cause of a great safety risk, when someone reaches for something with their dominant hand that is in the “wrong” place for the right-handed car. Now with the left-handed car, the left-handed driver is put in a great position of control.

Before the left-handed car, left-handed drivers must have gotten used to driving in right-handed cars. Left-handed people are simply forced to adapt at many times and situations. This is commonplace when you are not the majority of a group. The majority of the group makes decisions that affect everyone. Now having left handed cars may also boost the confidence of left-handed people. Having a car created just for them recognizes their needs and requirements. It no longer forces them to adapt, they can drive comfortably with their dominant hand in the “right” (correct) place.

Left-handed cars are ideal for many reasons. Hopefully they will encourage even more adaptations for left-handed people. Left handed people deserve to have gadgets and tools that are specifically designed for their needs. Left-handed cars are part of the wave of the future.

Using A Performance Throttle Body For Racing

Posted by Coronas44 in Cars and Trucks

When designing your engine for performance and winning races, you should at all times focus on getting the most air into your car as you can. The more air that can enter into the motor, the more fuel which can be combined with it and then ignited in order to create horsepower. The element of your engine which actually controls how much air is permitted to come in is called the throttle body.

The throttle body is pretty easy to spot. It is the circular or rectangular opening on top of, or on the side of the intake which can have one or more flat butterfly valves covering the opening. When you press down on the gas pedal with your foot, what you are really doing is opening up this valve on the throttle body to let more air in which in turn sucks more fuel into the engine.

Since more air equals more horsepower, does that mean that a bigger throttle body which lets in more air means you will be able to increase your engines performance? In general, yes. A larger throttle body will suck in more air, and as long as your engine is capable of keeping up with the fuel demand then you should see a horsepower increase. Performance-oriented throttle bodies are also often better able to provide precise control over how much air is entering, giving you a more accurate throttle. However, keep in mind that an engine is a system, and it should be treated that way. Bolt-on components like throttle bodies can help to improve your performance, but they work much better when matched with the proper valves, exhaust system and overall tuning.

For the ultimate in performance, the key is not to go bigger, but actually add supplementary throttle bodies to your intake. In fact, you can even add a throttle body for each cylinder in your engine. These are called individual throttle bodies, and together with a special intake they can provide a direct path to air for every cylinder individually. Individual throttle bodies are the ultimate in performance for this type of modification, but their implementation is fairly complicated.

Getting each of the throttle bodies to open at exactly the right time in tune with each other is a difficult proposition. Not only that, but out on the street potholes, speed bumps and just general road roughness can provide enough vibration to seriously interfere with the correct calibration of these throttle bodies. It is usually a better idea to reserve the use of ITBs for cars that will only be used on the track unless of course, you have the time and energy to devote to making sure that these throttle bodies stay in tune on your daily driver.

Whichever route you decide to go, whether ITB or larger single or dual throttle bodies, you need to make sure that you arent overloading your engines capacity. If you cant get enough fuel into your engine to make use of the extra air, you might actually decrease your performance. A larger fuel pump and fuel injectors with a higher flow rate can help to make sure that your new throttle body solution gives you the horsepower gains you are looking for.
