To IPhone Or To Not, That Is The Question!

Posted by KristiAmbrose in Consumer

I know for a fact I’m not alone in saying this, but I say yay to the iPhone. It’s not just a phone, it’s a “smart phone”. This guy can do pretty much everything you could ever want a phone to do, besides sprout wings and fly you to wherever you want to go! I mean were talking a PDA, a computer, a phone, and a music/media player all in one. As of right now there is a 8-16 GB, and a new 3 GB version which I believe is out in stores now. Listed below are a few tech specs on both the 8-16GB as well as the 3GB along with some other smart phones you should be checking out if you’re not an apple type of person. I am. I love apple. I don’t really dig Macs, but as far as smart phones and iPods go, I’m definitely in!

8 GB - 16 GB
Specs-
-Comes in Black
-4.7 ounces
-3.5 inch wide screen multi-touch display
-480×320 resolution
-Built in speaker, microphone, headphone jack and SIM card tray
-Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 1, 2, and 3), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
-Cellular, wireless, video, GPS, Wi-fi, Camera
-Download iTunes among other things

There is also a new 3 GB version which allows you to have ALL the things listed above, but the price is less than the 8 GB and 16 GB which is great. For one thing not everyone needs 8GBs or 16GBs and for two if you really want an iPhone but can’t afford to pay the price tag, then the 3GB is the product for you. Cheaper doesn’t mean cheesier. There is no difference between a brand new iPhone on Apple or a brand new iPhone on eBay except the price tag. The Apple iPhone is not only one of the greatest products I have seen Apple come out with thus far, but the technology with the iPhone is far beyond anyone’s reach. I haven’t seen a product like this yet that really makes me go “wow.” And to know that Apple made the 3GB model for a cheaper price tag just goes to show me that they want everyone to enjoy this phone, not just the people that can spend $500 (on site) for the phone.

Honestly I kind of wish they had the 3GB when I got my 8GB because the 8 is pretty huge! Then again maybe that’s a good thing because I will probably never run out of room. If you’re looking for the type of phone that’s going to look good, feel right, and have tons of awesome options, then the choice is easy! Get an iPhone, they’re the best of the best!

Back To School: Get Ready! Set! Go!

Posted by Seomul in Consumer

Being a parent means that when the end of July, beginning of August comes around, you are scrambling to get your kiddos ready for school. For the hundreds of millions of kids across the US, school is something to dread or wait excitedly for (depending on how their school year ended), and for mommies and daddies, school means preparations, buying school supplies, picking out school clothes, making scheduling adjustments, and lots and lots of hair pulling. Many parents groan in frustration, but their groans can be silenced by simply following these easy tips on preparing you and your kids for the coming school year.

Bright Beginnings and Elementary School

1. When the end of the summer begins to show its shiny head, its time to prepare your kiddos for their school schedule. What does that mean? Well, a simple trick to help get your kids back onto school time is to make their bedtimes the same as it would be during the school year. This means that they go to bed earlier than they have been all summer, and they don’t get to sleep in. Yes, this means that you don’t get that bit of morning peace before the rising storm, but if you get them on schedule now, you won’t want have deal with such a big hassle later.

2. The all important school supplies list should be compiled, reviewed, and reviewed again. It is crucial that you leave nothing off the list that your child(ren) might need when school begins. Once the school supplies list has been compiled and reviewed vigorously, shopping may begin. Taking one single trip to the store makes everything so much easier. At many discount stores, you can buy all their school supplies, teacher supplies, clothes, and lunch items all in one place. Sounds simple, right?

The Middle of the Line

1. Once again, school supplies play an important part to school preparedness. Just because they are in middle school doesn’t mean that they won’t need a plethora of markers, crayons, and other craftsy things. In some cases, the school will ask that you help provide the classroom with classroom supplies and teacher supplies. Why is this? Well, with the rising cost of everything these days, schools are having a harder time providing everything your child’s budding brain needs to succeed. Lend your child’s school a hand and purchase a few extra packs of paper, tubs of glue, and boxes of markers.

2. Just because they want to appear older doesn’t mean that they aren’t a little intimidated by the idea of being in a new school. Junior highs are a whole new world for the 5th or 6th grader that enters the hallowed halls of a middle school. Taking your kids on a visit of the school grounds will help them acquaint themselves with the school so that the first day isn’t quite so confusing.

3. If your child struggled with a specific subject in elementary school, consider finding a tutor for them. It is important that your child stay on the same academic level as their peers so that they don’t fall behind. Falling behind in a subject can be embarrassing, and can cause numerous social and academic problems in the future.

The High Road

1. The SATs and the PSATs are super important tests that absolutely need to be taken once your child enters high school. Do some research and find out when and where the tests are going to take place. Prepare your child for the test by either enrolling them in a pre-testing class or purchasing a study book.

2. Now that your beloved child is in high school, their school schedule and social calendars are going to be more full than ever. Make sure that you keep on top of what your child is doing, not only so you can keep your eye on them, but also so you can stay involved in their lives.

3. High school is the official jumping off point for college. Once your child enters their sophomore year of high school, they should be seriously considering which colleges they would like to attend and what field of study they would like to go into. Preparing for college far in advance helps you plan for their future, and get your super long list of school supplies ready and reviewed.

Getting your child ready for a new year of school shouldn’t be a hassle. Knowing what you need by making school supplies lists and knowing what to prepare them for is really going to help make their transition from summer fun to school setting a breeze.

Classroom Supplies For Teachers And Students

Posted by Seomul in Consumer

Classroom supplies include more than pencils, paper and notebooks. When it comes to decorating the classroom and stocking up on art supplies for students, you can find many of these items online or offline at teacher supply and art supply stores. Throughout the school year, students often need supplies for specific projects. Whether you are a student or a teacher, classroom and art supplies can be found online.

Some of the classroom supplies available online for teachers include:

. Bulletin boards
. Chalk boards
. Chalk
. Tacks
. Rubber Cement
. Sealant
. Adhesives
. Paint
. Paint brushes
. Alphabet cards
. Seasonal decorations
. Tissue paper
. Construction paper
. Drawing Pads
. Handwriting Pads
. And much more

Many of these are needed at home as well as in the classroom. If you are a parent and have an artist in the family, the chances are that they will be taking art as an elective. Painters and sketch artists alike need supplies to support their talents. While these are an extra expense, they may be a necessary one.

If art supplies are what you are looking for, canvases, frames, acrylics, oils and watercolors are available for purchase online and can often be found at discount prices. If you are looking for these items locally, check craft and art supply stores. Sketch books and drawing pencils along with smudge sticks and art erasers; all of these can be found off and online. Most of these items cannot be found at large chain stores except for those that are specifically geared toward arts and crafts.

Classrooms are in need of more than decoration, school supplies and art. Other great buys include such things as tissue for those runny noses, paper towels for clean up and antibacterial gels and lotions. Other classroom supplies you might not have thought of include paper plates, yarn, thread and beads. These are more suited for elementary school supplies, but they may be needed just the same. If you are the parent of a student, why not ask the teacher about these items? Often teachers end up purchasing these out of their own paychecks. The school system provides less of these than you might think.

Teachers can purchase art and classroom supplies in bulk online and save a lot more money than by going to the local craft and school supply store. Parents can help them out either by getting together and purchasing some of these items themselves or by giving teachers gift certificates from online and offline stores to be used for any classroom supplies they need.

Other teacher supplies available include planners, academic progress folders for keeping track of students work and grades, note pads for jotting down ideas and reminders and organization software.

If you teach your children at home, teacher supply stores are as important as school supply stores in finding everything you need to make the school year fruitful. Home schooled children need the same supplies as kids who go to public and private schools and their parents need teacher and classroom supplies as well. The internet has given home schooling parents more resources and they are available with the click of a mouse.

Teacher supplies can include some of the most basic school supplies as well. Many families do not have the financial resources to keep up with necessities for school. When these supplies are available in the classroom, life is easier on the teacher and the students.

As responsible members of the community, those who can afford to help out with school supplies for kids should take advantage of the chance to give of their hearts and wallets. Public school teachers may not be poor, but they don’t make enough to justify spending their much needed money on the classroom, no matter how big a heart they have. If you are looking for a way of helping out the community, giving to your children’s classrooms is a way of helping your own kids at the same time. As stated before, classroom supplies are just a click or short drive away.

The Van Hire Process, Paperwork And Vehicle Controls

Posted by Prettyone in Consumer

Please Advertise Here

Hiring a van is much the same as hiring a car; the only real difference is the reason that people actually hire vans. Contractors often hire vans to maintain their operations while a vehicle is in for service or repair while many choose to rent a van when they are moving furniture and other items. There is a wide selection of different vans out there for hire ranging in size and drivability meaning that renters are almost sure to find the perfect vehicle for their requirements. The rental process can be confusing however; hopefully the following advice will give renters a better understanding of this process and how to have the best van hire experience.

The first and most important thing to remember is that when you arrive at the hire company, it is vital to have all of the relevant documentation at hand. Naturally you will be required to bring a copy of the rental agreement and conformation number for your booking, without it you have no proof of purchase and hence will not be able to rent the vehicle. As well as the company literature it is normal procedure to bring a valid driver’s licence, both parts, the photo card and paper element will be needed. Utility bills may also be needed to provide a proof of address, especially if your address differs from that on the licence. If booking with a credit card, the company may also wish to take the details of this to ensure that the payment is valid.

Most companies will have a fuel policy for all of the vehicles they let out. In the majority of cases fuel is not included meaning that if the van has a full tank when it is picked up, on its return the fuel level should be the same. As many vans are diesel it is always worth checking with the company before departure to see what type of fuel the vehicle uses.

The hire process usually involves a deal of paperwork. Part of this paperwork will be the rental agreement but also companies will give you a vehicle report form. This form typically contains information on the vehicle’s mileage, interior cleanliness and whether any dents or scratches are evident. Using this form to assess the van is important; make a detailed check all over the van to ensure that when you return the vehicle you are not given any additional charges for damage you have not caused. Larger companies will normally have some form of breakdown service, before departure make sure to take this phone number just in case the vehicle falters.

Some companies will put a mileage restriction on their vehicles. Check this in the rental agreement and if it is likely you will exceed the restriction; change the contract so that it provides unlimited mileage. For those using their van for a self move it is usually advisable to hire a variety with a tail lift. This device can take much of the effort out of moving, saving your back and ensuring that the move is as easy as possible.

Driving a van is fundamentally different from driving a car, this is why it is vital to familiarise yourself with the controls of the vehicle before departure. As with any vehicle adjusting the mirrors and driving position is essential, visibility in vans is normally reduced so this is vitally important to ensure your awareness on the road is suitable. Take time to drive the van carefully noting the differences in handling and of course the extra height of the vehicle. By taking a conscientious approach it should be possible to drive the van safely.

Hopefully this information has given the renter advice on how to get the best from their van hire experience. Understanding the rental agreement and having familiarity with the vehicle will all help in this.

Rental expert Thomas Pretty looks into the van hire process and why care should be taken when driving larger vehicles.

Retractable Awnings: 3 Ways They Add Value To Your Home

Posted by Ajvan in Consumer

Please Advertise Here

If you are a Do-It-Yourself type of person, then the idea of adding to your house’s hospitality potential gets you excited. Design and decorating ideas make you salivate, and you keep your eyes open for new ways to increase your home’s market value.

Have you heard about retractable awnings? If so, they likely strike you as a good way to control sunlight and create shade in strategic areas. You’ve probably thought about them as a tool for enhancing outdoor areas. And these are realistic benefits that awnings provide. However, there are additional ways that awnings can be employed as part of a home improvement strategy, increasing the resale value of your residence. Here is a summary of three significant ways this happens.

First, retractable awnings alter the interior environment of your home. That might be surprising, since awnings are usually applauded for their deck or poolside uses, but stay with me. Here’s the big picture: If you install awnings above windows on the sides of your house that are routinely overheated, you can cut glare UV rays by 94 percent and lower the temperatures inside your home by up to 15 degrees (American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers).

The upshot is that you won’t find yourself pulling blinds to combat the direct sunlight. Your home furnishing won’t be bleached by the sun. And the inside of your home will have a more open, inviting atmosphere, illuminated (not scorched) by filtered sunlight.

Second, retractable awnings make your home stand out. This is all the more true in areas where the houses have similar architecture. Realtors say that curb appeal is one of the primary factors that come to bear on potential home buyers: What is their immediate impression when they pull up to view your house? Awnings come in a variety of colors, styles, and sizes to match any type of home. By blending them with your existing architecture, you’ll add appealing personality to your entry areas, decks, patios, or windows.

Third, retractable awnings multiply fuel efficiency. The obvious way this happens is by saving you cash on utility bills, since awnings have the ability to lower interior temperatures dramatically (see above). However, studies by the EPA reveal that this type of energy efficiency affects a home’s eventual resale value as well–so there is a pay-off down the road as well as an immediate one. Approximately, for every $1 saved on utility bills, a residence adds $10-25 in resale worth.

We can see how this might add up by performing a few quick calculations. Awnings installed over bright windows can lower interior temperatures by up to 15 degrees. In turn, this cuts air conditioning bills and results in overall energy savings of 25 to 34 percent, depending on climate. Let’s do the math.

If you pay $80 a month on electricity, strategically installed awnings would save you a minimum of $25 per month and $300 per year. If we multiply that number by the low resale value stat ($10 more in resale worth for every utility $1 saved), we end up with a $3000 increase in your residence’s asking price. You would actually realize these savings by situating awnings above the sun-baked windows of your home (typically south, west, and east sides), lowering them in bright weather, and retracting them on overcast, chilly days to take advantage of solar heat.

If you’re the type who keeps a look-out for affordable home improvement projects, you may want to take a closer look at retractable awnings. There aren’t many DIY projects that can match their combined economy and style.

AJ Vanderhorst writes about how to choose retractable awnings. A world of bright aesthetics and cool, flexible, outdoor living awaits your discovery. Explore contemporary awnings at Retractable Awnings Guide.
