The Power Of Educational DVD’s: Potty Training

Posted by Artgib in Infants and Toddlers

If you are getting ready to potty train your child there is a perfect potty training package that can help you out. We all appreciate ways to make things simpler when we go to potty train our toddler.

Today, there are many videos and other training materials available designed to both assist parents and train toddlers in the fine art of going potty. Some of the more popular materials include award winning DVD’s from Dr. Potty (called Potty Power) and I Can Go Potty (produced by a pediatric doctor) as well as other titles such as Go Potty Go, Potty Training in One Day (positively reviewed by Parents magazine) and many others.

Most materials are actually potty training kits that include both a video — many times geared equally for both parent and child — and reading materials that help with potty training your little boy or girl.

When you toilet train your child there are ways you can make it a faster process with all these wonderful materials. You can potty train your child in a short time by knowing the right steps given to your in a training package. These things help your child understand and learn how to control their body. Children really do want their independence and going to the bathroom on their own is a big step in the right direction.

Fighting with your child when you are potty training them is not the answer. Your child must feel like they are in control of the situation and fighting with them can hurt their self-esteem. Potty training takes time and patience.

You must wait until it is the right time to start potty training. This varies for each child and how quick they start asking about going to the toilet on their own. Some children start showing more interest than others with using the potty.

A potty training kit can help you to answer questions about when to start training your child among other things that are important to make this process easier for you and your child. It will teach you easier ways of making your child feel more independent about using the toilet on their own. It is wise to keep a close schedule with your child to help them get headed in the right direction.

Using the Potty Power kit can help teach your child all about going to the bathroom. This can help you to get them through this rough time of their life. You can use pull up diapers while potty training your child especially at night.

During the day, you should use training underwear for your child. This will give them a sense of feeling grown up and wanting to go to the bathroom on their own. If your child has an accident, avoid shaming them as this can hurt their self esteem and set them back in their training.

Just let them know that they will do better the next time around. If they do a good job of going to the toilet, think of some way to reward them for doing well. This is a big step for the child and a reward will make them feel like they are really accomplishing something.

Dr. Potty (http://drpotty.com) offers the Potty Power training kit, winner of the Parents’ Choice Honors. Potty Power is both educational and entertaining for both parents and the potty training child. Art Gib is a freelance writer.

Locating Toys For Children That Are Unique

Posted by Vgevge in Children

There are several places where individuals can purchase an even larger variety of toys for their children to enjoy playing with. There are specialty toy stores, department stores, discount stores, and not to mention a wide variety of web sites through the Internet.

There are so many toys on the market today that are available for children parents are sure to find that one special toys that is sure to please their child. The only problem that parents may have with all the available toys on the market is trying to determine is which type of toy would please their child. Before purchasing a toy for your child, be sure that the toy will hold the attention of your child and that the toy is what your child would like.

One thing that many parents do that can often be damaging to the child in the long run, and that is purchase every single toy that their child ask for. At times it can be definitely difficult for parents to have to say no to their children, but parents need to know that saying no is perfectly acceptable. Children need to understand that they sometimes they can not get every thing their little hearts desires. I can not tell you how many times I have seen children go into tantrums inside of a store simply because their parents would not purchase what they wanted. Let you child understand that receiving toys is a special occasion that does not necessarily happen every single day, which will help eliminate the children tantrums.

The most unique toys created are made by highly skilled wood carvers that have the capabilities of creating one of a kind toys that children are sure to love for years. These highly skilled wood carvers put their heart and souls into each individual toy that they create. In the least expected places parents are able to find original one of a kind toys, which includes estate sales. Once I climbed the stairs to the attic of my grandparents house and was simply amazed at all the treasures I was able to find that had been hidden away for years upon years. As I opened each box I was amazed at the treasures stored there just waiting to once again be discovered by someone that would once again treasure them as they had been treasured before.

The toys I found were mostly toys that had been made my hand that included cars, trucks, and beautifully hand-made rag dolls. With these toys of olden times children had to allow their imaginations fly to worlds beyond where there was nothing that was impossible for them to complete. These toys were built to last the test of time and the hardest of children for that matter, which is one of many reasons they have become so priceless over the years. I am still not sure exactly whose toys these belong to, but the owner most definitely took pride in them due to the excellent condition they were in.

Essentials Parents Must Know About Baby Cribs

Posted by Edustellamak in Infants and Toddlers

It is important that babies have a safe and cozy place to sleep. One of the most common places is the baby crib. It has a soft mattress for the baby, blankets to keep the baby warm and bars at the side to stop the baby from falling out accidentally. When the parents are aware that their babies are safe in the baby cribs, it will give them a peace of mind to sleep well.

However, parents must be reminded to keep a watchful eye when their baby grows older. Parents, especially first time parents, must know that babies are very curious and some will try to climb out their baby cribs as they grow older. As such, you should get the kind of cribs that allow you to lower the mattress when the need arises. This can be determined by your baby’s ability to stand, even when he or she is standing with support. When that happens, you should lower the mattress to a lower level or to the lowest level so that you baby remains safe in the crib. If after lowering the mattress you are still worried about your baby’s safety in the crib, then it is an indication that you must replace the baby crib with a toddler bed.

There are a lot of parents who might feel that it is not worthwhile getting a new baby crib because it will not be used for a long period as the baby will outgrow it very quickly. Because of that, many parents have now turned to getting the types that can be converted into a toddler bed when your baby is no longer suitable to be left to sleep in the crib. Some toddler beds can even be further turned into a day bed which then allow the child to sleep for many years in it before he or she finally outgrow the bed all together.

A parent can also look into getting a used baby crib for a low price. You do need to make sure what you buy is safe though. You don’t want there to be issues with lead paint or that there is a recall out there for that model of baby crib. Take your time to really choose what will work best for your household.

If money is a concern, parents can consider getting a used baby crib instead. The price for the used baby crib is definitely much lower than getting a brand new one. You need to ensure that the used crib is not covered with lead paint or the possibility of that particular model of baby crib being recalled back by the manufacturers. As a result, it is crucial that you take your time in finding the most suitable piece of furniture for your own financial preferences.

On the other hand, some parents might not be willing to give away their baby’s crib because it is a piece of furniture that holds a lot of wonderful memories for their baby. They might be reluctant to take it down to put it away or to give it to someone. This baby crib can hold a lot of sentimental value for the parents. They may instead prefer to hand the crib down to their child when their grandchildren arrive.

So when is the best time to get the baby crib ready? It all depends on the individual’s preference. Some parents will put the crib up long before the baby was due to arrive while others might be superstitious and believe that it is bad luck to put the crib up before the baby arrives home. These parents will thus put the crib up only after the baby has arrived home.

Parenting And Video Games

Posted by DeMerchant in Family

We are used to the scenario in a mall where a kid craves for a particular game and the parent indulges the whims otherwise a tantrum would set off. Parenting and video games sometimes seem to clash when it already involves the values and violence that come with the territory. To avoid that, and the tantrums, from happening, there are several helpful tips a parent should think of when purchasing and controlling those video games.

Offer as a reward. By treating your kid to a video game after a job well done, you can actually hit two birds with one stone, as the saying goes. First is you motivate your child to do well in activities such as fixing their room, eating their lunch, or a good performance in school, depending of course on their age. And second is to prevent tantrums. What parent wouldn’t want this? This is not a form of bribing, although it shares a similar trait, but with rewarding, the outcome is more positive.

Choose which games to play. The kids may have a preference of their own and may sometimes involve those popular ones that are too action-packed for their age. What you can do is to escort them to shelves in a store that contains a different theme and keep them away from a much mature content. If this cannot be avoided, negotiate. Find games that are less explicit and more suitable for their age.

Speaking of regulating the kind of games you will allow your kids to play, look for the game rating and age limit of the game. It has been mandated that developers are to aid in parenting and video games should be aptly labeled for their specified age group depending on the theme, storyline and graphics. Although you may not play the game itself as a parent or have no knowledge of the gaming world, at least you can be assured that the contents are filtered and exposure is controlled.

Set a schedule. Video games are addictive. Before you even allow your kids to play a video game, you must first make an agreement to follow set conditions and play times, such as doing it after homework and only playing for an hour or two during the weekdays. The benefit of having the agreement set out first is so that your kid will get used to the idea of control and self discipline. If your child has been habitually playing for a long amount of time, it would be more difficult to try and set boundaries.

Observe your kid. After playing a game does he or she tend to be violent or withdrawn? Or is entertainment doing a good for your child. Parents should not be oblivious to the effects of these games even after making sure that no unnecessary content is exposed. If your child tends to lock up in a room and doesn’t go out and play outdoors, then it may be time to check.

These five suggestions are a good way of having parenting and video games agree in a sentence. Since the kids may not have a solid decision of their own, the parents are responsible fordoing the thinking for them.

Does Medicaid Cover Surrogacy?

Posted by Cleobird in Pregnancy and Family Planning

My potential surrogate mothers and their intended parents are attracted by the idea that Medicaid, or other federal programs, can assist with the costs of the surrogate mother’s pregnancy and the birth of the surrogate baby. Maternity health insurance can be quite expensive and this is a way to trim thousands of dollars away from the cost of surrogacy which can be used for other expenses, including the surrogate’s compensation.

So that begs the question: if a surrogate mother financially qualifies for government assistance, should that be used to help cover the costs of a surrogacy? The answer is absolutely NO. Under no circumstances should federal assistance be used to fund a surrogacy.

It is not the government’s responsibility to assist intended parents with the costs of their infertility treatments. Though a typical set of intended parents have put in more than their fair share of taxes over the years, and might feel entitled to receiving some benefits from all of that, it is not the remaining taxpayer’s burden to bear.

Though the surrogate mother may qualify to receive assistance, the child she carries does not. The parents of that child do not meet the income qualifications needed to be eligible for the assistance. This is the equivalent of a woman claiming her neighbor’s child is hers in order to qualify.

It is fraud. And if the government decided to, they could prosecute the surrogate mother and intended parents for fraud. This could involve hefty fines, and, if they chose to make an example of the situation may even involve jail time.

Many agencies and clinics will not work with surrogate mothers who are on public assistance. Often, they simply do not want to get involved in a situation that could become misconstrued by the federal government.

Another reason agencies choose not to work with these women is the fact that they might need the money provided by surrogacy in order to meet their basic necessities. Since so much in surrogacy is uncertain, the surrogate might go months without receiving a cent of compensation. She may also go upwards of a year and end a journey having never received any compensation whatsoever.

Add to that the fact that many see surrogacy as exploitation of the poor and agencies simply do not wish to get involved. The last thing surrogacy needs is more controversy.

Other forms of public assistance, such as WIC should also be viewed the same way. If she were not pregnant with another couple’s child, the surrogate would not qualify to be placed on WIC; therefore, she does not quality for it.

If a potential surrogate mother is in dire financial straits, surrogacy is simply not the best option for her. If a woman is currently a surrogate and finds herself in a difficult financial situation which will cause her to not be able to afford proper nutrition, the intended parents should cover these costs.

But under no circumstances should either the surrogate mother or intended parents be tempted to use the government for help. Medicaid is not a cheap way to get a surrogacy done. It’s a way to get in a lot of trouble in years to come.

Teaching Your Children Manners - 6 Things You May Not Know

Posted by Zallred in Children

Teaching your children manners can be accomplished when it is done consistently. As parents we all want our children to be well mannered. I know as a father I enjoy compliments from other adults about my children’s behavior. Like you I am sometimes surprised when these compliments come. Here are some guidelines for teaching manners to your children.

1. Do not try too fast. If you are trying to teach your 2 year old to chew with their mouth closed you may not get very far. Think about the tremendous coordination it takes to do this. When your child is 5 or 6 though, they are ready.

2. Always, always set a good example. Take something like picking your nose. This may seem blunt but have you ever caught yourself doing the very thing you are trying to teach your child not to do? I know I have. 95% of what we do we learn through example.

3. Speak respectfully to your child. Have you ever observed a parent trying to drill respect into a child by being demeaning to that child? Your children learn by watching you. Try using words and phrases like “please” and “thank you” “Excuse me” and “I am sorry.” Do this as early as possible in your child’s development. Also the tone you use is just as important.

4. What language do you use? It is commonly understood that swearing is a sign of poor education and upbringing. I hope this does not offend you so I will just say “Speak like you want your children to speak.”

5. Formality with adults. Impertinent children speak informally to adults. At least this was the case 100 years ago. Teach your children to say Mr. and Mrs. and Ms. unless the adult tells them otherwise. Also mind how you speak about other adults in the presence of your children.

6. Questioning bad behavior? When an adult comes to you and reports something your child has done never take your child’s side with the adult present. Instead turn to your child and say “Mr. Smith says you broke his window with your baseball. Why did you do that?” Your child may very well try to deny it at this point but you will immediately undermine all respect your child has for adults if you immediately take your child’s side. I know this may sound unreasonable but just think about it. Do you know Mr. Smith to be a liar? Does Mr. Smith dislike your child? I realize sometimes this is the case but 99% of the time it is not.

The fact is that Mr. Smith has a broken window. Get on Mr. Smith’s team and help your child do the same and solve the mystery. If it turns out to be your child use this as a learning experience and ask Mr. Smith how you and your child can make him whole.

Teaching your children manners can be accomplished by setting the example first. Teach your children to be more formal with adults which will lead to respect. Remember you are an adult and if you teach your children good manners they will naturally have more respect for you.
