How To Train Your Pet To Become A Treadmill Dog

One of the most popular exercise machines out today for humans is the treadmill. The reasons why treadmills are so popular are they are easy to use, they burn calories, and they create less impact on your body compared with walking or running on hard surfaces and their conveniently located inside your home. Those same reasons can apply to your dog’s exercise routine. You can train your dog to be a treadmill dog and walk on a treadmill just as you do.

This equipment is easy to use for both humans and animals because it allows for the natural movement as walking or running outdoors. There are treadmills made especially for pets, but they work similarly to regular treadmills.

Training your pet to walk on a human treadmill is just as simple as training them to walk on a specialized dog treadmill. When you have the equipment already in your home, there is no need to be out the expense on doggie equipment.

Conveniently located in your home, you are only steps away from helping your treadmill dog maintain a health fitness program. Fluctuations in weather conditions as well as daylight or darkness have no effect on his daily workout. Rainy or snowy weather and unsafe traffic conditions are also eliminated.

The first step in the training process is always safety. Make sure you have a harness with a place to attach a leash in front of the chest. This way it’s easier to control the dog while you’re in front of them, and it will prevent unnecessary tension on a neck collar.

Another thing to keep in mind while you exercise your dog on a treadmill is that they are doing all the work, and we’re not. Its activity can be a big workout for dogs because it requires a steady pace. Make sure to watch and listen for signs that your dog is getting tired or overheated just as you would for any activity.

Now, make sure the equipment is at its lowest setting. A dog can become frightened by the intensity of the ground moving too quickly beneath him. Get yourself comfortable in a spot in front of the machine so that you will be close to your pet. If you get up and leave your dog in the middle of the training, he may become anxious. Never leave your dog unattended on a treadmill. He could lose his footing and become choked.

Next take and offer your dog a treat to lure him onto the treadmill. You will want to make this a positive experience for your dog. Once your dog is positioned on the platform, thread the leash in through the front of the treadmill and turn the machine on low. Use the treats to lure your dog forward and keep them just beyond his nose until he willingly moves forward with the machine. Don’t forget to reward the behavior with a treat.

Dogs respond positively to words of encouragement, so call to him and tell him how great he’s doing. Make sure to always start out slow and progress until your dog reaches an easy trot. Do this for five minutes a day until he moves smoothly even without a treat for a lure.

Treadmill use has grown over the years due to how simple and effective they are to get a thorough workout. There is no reason why your dog can’t benefit from the same principals as you do. With a little training and reassurance, a treadmill gets results, whether for you or your treadmill dog.

Top 7 Tips For Buying A Treadmill

Buying a treadmill? There are so many new brands and features on the market these days, it’s hard to know just what to look for. This article lists the top 7 tips for buying a treadmill so you can find the best buy for you.

1) Motor - This is the heart of your machine. Try to look for a high powered motor of at least 2.0 Continuous Duty HP or more. Even if you just plan on walking.

Motors usually range from 1.25 HP up to 3.5 HP. Remember that a 1.25 HP motor will have to work twice as hard as a 2.5 HP motor - so it probably won’t last as long.

You also want to consider the quality of the motor construction. While many brands claim to have high quality built motors, one way you can actually judge is to look at the length of motor warranty.

In all likelihood, the longer the warranty the better the quality of motor. If you think about it, this makes sense. Manufacturers are not going to slap a 30 year warranty on a motor that they know is poorly made.

More motor tips for buying a treadmill: Make sure you’re looking at the continuous duty motor power of the motor (the power at which the motor can run for 24 hours without slowing down).

Some manufacturers will try to impress you by listing the peak duty motor power (the highest power at which the treadmill can operate - but it can only sustain this for a short time) since this is higher than the continuous duty power. However this is not a true measure of motor power.

2) Belt - There are really two things to look at here. Belt thickness and size. Most home treadmills come with a 2 ply belt although a few only offer a 1 ply belt.

Obviously 2 ply belts are better and will last longer. To give you more perspective on this, commercial treadmills (gym quality) usually come with a 4 ply belt since they have to stand up under more rigorous use.

Belt sizes range. Widths range from 16 - 22″ wide. You probably want to avoid the 16″ as it will feel very narrow. Eighteen to 20″ wide belts are fine for most people.

Lengths range from 48″ to 62″ long. Again, the shorter belt sizes are probably not the best choice. If you’re over 5′8″ or plan on running, you’ll probably prefer a 55″ - 62″ belt. This way you can pick up the pace without feeling like you’re falling off the machine.

3) Stability - You want a treadmill that feels stable - even when you start to run. There’s no point buying a machine that shakes and wobbles when you speed up. There are a number of factors that contribute to high stability including quality of construction, unit weight and user weight capacity.

The heavier a machine is, the more stable it’s going to feel. A higher user weight capacity is also a good indicator of higher stability.

4) Console - While this is largely up to you (for example, what workout stats do you want to see when exercising), there is a large range of console options. Many people prefer consoles that show all their workout stats at once - as opposed to those that scroll through them as you work out.

More console tips for buying a treadmill: Pay attention to console brightness. For example, depending on the lighting in your home, some consoles can be hard to see.

Backlit consoles make reading your stats much easier. So if your area lighting isn’t the best, consider choosing a treadmill with a backlit console.

5) Cushioning - This is a must-have feature. Poor cushioning can damage your joints very quickly - especially if you’re a runner. Cushioning is usually a function of price (the higher end models usually have much better cushioning than lower end models).

However there are exceptions. Most treadmills have their own type of cushioning that you can learn about from their literature or website, so you can judge the best one for you.

6) Folding - Most home units will fold up. The advantage of a folding treadmill is that it’s easier to move the machine for storage or for cleaning. The disadvantage is that a folding treadmill may compromise on stability (ever notice that none of the health club models fold up?).

7) Extras - These are all the little things that make working out fun (or at least distracting). There are lots of options here including workout programs, heart rate monitors, Mp3 ports with built-in speakers, tools to track your fitness progress over time, built-in TVs and even weight loss programs.

Deciding what you want in extra features ahead of time can help you single out the right machine when you see it.

Nike’s Popularity Over The Footware Business

Nike is a popular brand of shoes and other sports apparel and accessories. Its headquarters are in Beaverton, Oregon. Considered as the biggest and most successful brand of sports goods, Nike has become a pop culture icon, with customers averaging 60% of the total market.

It all started in 1963 to 1964 when two people, a track coach (Bill Bowerman) and a mid-distance runner (Phil Knight) decided to import and distribute running shoes that are cheap yet high quality from Japan. Back then, German companies dominated the market for sports shoes. They call their small company of two people Blue Ribbon Sports.

In 1965, Jeff Johnson, Knight’s former competitor, joined the duo and he became the sales person for the company.

However, around 1970’s, Bowerman got tired of just importing and selling shoes. He decided he wanted to do more than just that, he wanted to create his own designs. Luckily, inspiration struck when he accidentally poured rubber into a waffle maker, the very first prototype for the famous Nike Waffle Outsole. This is the start of the revolutionary designs which up to now is still very famous and well-loved among Nike fans and regular buyers.

The current name of the company, Nike, Inc. blossomed when Jeff Johnson dreamt of the goddess of victory in Greek mythology, Nike. Some of the most famous creations of Nike using the waffle outsole are the Waffle Racer, Air Max 93, Max 95, Air Max 97, and Air Force One, to name a few.

Nike shoes and other sporting goods have the Nike logo, the Swoosh. Knight asked a graphic design student, Carolyn Davidson, from Portland State University to create a logo that will be placed on the side of Nike shoes.

Probably the most famous and influential endorser of the Nike shoes, Michael Jordan signed a contract under Nike, Inc. in 1984 to endorse Air Jordan, his very own signature line of shoes under Nike.

Here are other important milestones of the Nike shoe industry.

1979 M. Frank Rudy invented the Air technology for Nike.
1982 Nike Air Force One first used the Air technology.
1984 Air Jordan was launched.
1986 Sales of Nike exceeds $1 billion.
1987 Air Max shoes had been introduced by Nike.
1988 The Just Do It slogan was launched.
1990 Nike opened the famous Niketown shop in Portland, Oregon. This shop received many awards related to business and retail design.
1993 Nike started a project which recycles used sports shoes that can help in constructing courts, tracks and fields. The program is called Reuse-A-Shoe. They will put all the old shoes they have collected into their very own Nike Grind to separate and grind the material.
1994 The company started to have its name in the football fields as well. Nike tied up with a football team from Brazil.
1996 Another effort to popularize Nike golf, they signed up Eldrick Tiger Woods to endorse the Nike line of sporting goods for golf. In this same year, they also opened Niketown in New York specifically in Manhattan.
2000 Nike introduce Shox technology.
2003 Nike acquired Converse Shoes for $305 million. They were also given the title Advertiser of the Year by the Cannes Advertising Festival.
2004 Sales increased up to more than $13 billion.
2005 Nike introduced a line that features eco-friendly merchandise to lessen waste. The line is called Nike Considered.
