The Process Of Water Purification

Posted by Chasthrpr in Food and Drinks

Water purification in your household and not only should be very important. We should all be careful about the water we drink and the water we bath or wash with. The same way you protect your washing machine from calcium deposits, the same way we have to learn to take care of our bodies.

Just because we do not see it immediately it does not mean we are not affected by water that is not purified. There are several water purifiers, water softeners and water purification systems that we can choose from.

Purifying water is essential because it removes chemicals and bacteria as well as minerals like calcium and magnesium. A water purifier can remove all the bacteria without removing chemicals and minerals.

A water softener will remove the calcium and magnesium that are considered hardening minerals, but will not take care of the chemicals and bacteria. If each of them is specifically design to achieve one thing in the process of water purification it does not mean that water cannot be purified.

One thing to remember is that the tap water you have is already treated and some of the impurities, bacteria and chemicals are already removed. Because from the treating place to your house water still has a long way to travel through the plumbing system some new bacteria and other impurities from the plumbing system are carried by the water.

Thus even though water was treated and cleaned it can still appear dirty, cloudy and even have an odor. To get rid of all of these or at least most of them you have to use a water purification system in your house. You can select one that is installed in your kitchen, bathroom or both, or you can select a more performing one installed at the main water pipe outside your house. All these systems use different processes to purify water. Different processes let you obtain purified water at different levels.

Even though water purification is actually the method of eliminating impurities from the untreated water there is no way to get the purified water in the households and have the same level of purity. This is way the industry developed a series of water purifiers to help individual households as well as other industries like the chemical or pharmaceutical industries where it is extremely important to have water with no impurities.

The most common methods to achieve purified water are the filtration, the water softening, the reverse osmosis, the carbon filtration, the ultraviolet filtration, distillation and boiling. While boiling may prove to be a method that manages to eliminate just a few of the bacteria, distillation manages to make almost 100 percents pure water.

The reverse osmosis filtration method is getting more and more popular as well as the use of more performing systems that have several filters in place, each of them being responsible for a set of impurities that exist in the water. There are also portable water purifiers on the market. These give you the chance of purifying your drinking water if you are in areas where water safety can be a problem. Nowadays, because of the high level of pollution, not even the spring rivers are safe enough anymore.

Drinking water and cooking water should be obtained with the help of water purifier systems. These systems should have filters for removing microscopic particles like calcium carbonate and even rust that comes off from the pipes, filters for removing sediments, activated carbon filters for eliminating chemicals and a reverse osmosis filter. Also more advanced systems offer an ultraviolet light intended to neutralize any escaping impurities.

Having at least a water purifier system is important especially if you live in rural areas or in areas where there are water problems. Even in the city where water is available all the time, the quality of it is not as is should and people should take extra precautions when using it. An investment in a water purification system is in fact an investment in your health and your estate.

Baking And Decorating The Perfect Cake - Tips To For Creating Exquisite Creations

Posted by Jgauttier in Food and Drinks

It can be hard not to be dazzled every time that you walk into a nice bakery. A beautifully decorated cake is one of the great joys of the culinary arts. Almost everyone gets excited at the sight of a beautiful cake. If you are interested in cake decoration and cake design, you will be happy to see that cake decorating can be fun as a hobby and it can also be seen as one of the high edible arts. But before you can get into cake decorating, you should also have an idea about baking. Here are some guidelines are creating the perfect cake for the perfect cake decorating experience.

Tip #1 - Use a Cake Mix if you are New to Baking

One of the easiest things you can do for yourself is to try to produce a good foundation to work with. This means that you want to pull out from the oven a golden brown, evenly baked cake that you can really work with. You want to establish a smooth foundation that will make it easier for you to apply your icing and decorative flourishes. The best kind of cake foundation has very few crumbs. Ideally, your cake will be level on both top and bottom. If you have never baked a cake before and this is your very first foray into cake decoration, you should start with a box cake mix and follow the directions. This is an easy way to make sure that you get a good solid cake to work with.

Tip #2 - Never Rush the Cake Decorating Process!

If there is one cake decorating tip that you should take to heart, it is this one: never rush the cake decorating process. Probably ninety per cent of all cake decorating problems or mistakes have to do with the cake decorator trying to rush through the process. For instance, if you try to decorate a cake right after taking it out of the oven, you will find that this is probably not the most ideal situation for cake decorating. Always, always let your cake cool before you begin the process of icing it. Some bakers even like to freeze their cakes before they begin the process of icing and decoration. Always let your cake cool off at least an hour. Ideally, you should let the cake sit and set overnight.

Tip #3 - Make it Easy on Yourself and Keep Your Cake Level

One of the easiest ways to make sure that you have a cake that you can work with is to level and trim your baked cake. As always, wait until the cake has cooled completely before you get cutting and pruning. Take a serrated knife and trim off the crust and dry edges. You can level off the crown of the cake center if it is lumpy or otherwise not smooth. This way, you will hopefully establish a nice, smooth surface that makes it easy to ice the cake. If you like, you can also torte the cake if you want to decorate it. Torting simply involves the process of slicing varying layers into your cake.

Tip #4 - How to Apply the Perfect First Layer of Icing

In order to get the most consistency, make sure to apply a layer of icing to the cake before you begin the real work of cake decorating. Make this first layer your crumb catcher. That is, use the icing in order to make the crumbs stick to the cake. After you have applied this first layer of icing, let the cake set for at least a few hours.

How To Cook Pasta Right?

Posted by Ifoodtv in Food and Drinks

When one thinks of Italian cuisine, Pasta is what comes to mind first. Pasta cooked perfectly and with the right combination of ingredients can be an absolutely mouth watering dish- a real treat for your taste buds. It is light on the stomach and healthy too. It is a wonderful combination of flavors all packed into one. You would discover the authentic Italian taste one at a time as you relish spoon after spoon of this treat. A heavenly dish that is both quick to make and a real delight, this is a great way to treat your family and friends to an authentic Italian fare.

If you are however not sure of how to cook pasta you can actually be left with a clump of pasta all sticking closely to one another like a pack of great friends. Whether you decide to have your pasta in red sauce, white sauce, a salad or like it baked; first and foremost you need to master the technique of cooking pasta. It is really simple once you know just how.

If you have searched online for pasta recipes then you would observe that most of them start with “cook your pasta” or “now that you have your pasta cooked and ready to begin”. The recipes do not really teach you how to cook the pasta which is the very first and most important step to a lip smacking delight.

When pasta is cooked in water it actually releases the starch that is present in it thus, making it bigger in size. The water gets sticky with all the starch and the pasta also has a starch coating that gives it a slimy feel. Just how to have the pasta of the right texture and cooked just right is all very simple provided you know the secrets to cooking it perfectly.

For cooking pasta first and foremost, it is important to bring water to a boil, this would help soak the pasta and cook it well. The hot water would help to get rid of the starch on the pasta real quick. At this point when the starch is released, the pasta with a sticky surface tends to stick together. Stir to prevent your pasta from sticking together. Add salt to the water so that your pasta has the right seasoning, this would make a big difference to the taste.

Some might even suggest that it would be best to add oil to the water while cooking pasta to prevent it from sticking together. However, this is best avoided. It would definitely prevent your pasta from sticking together but this gives the pasta an oily coating. This oily coating would not let the sauce stay on the pasta and thus, would adversely affect the taste of your dish to a great extent.

See that the pasta is not over-cooked and cook it to just the right consistency. Drain the pasta and add it to the prepared sauce and let it coat well (do not rinse in cold water) with the delicious sauce of your choice.

You could use a tomato based red sauce or your favorite white sauce. Combine with a good helping of vegetables like broccoli and peppers to enhance the nutritious value and taste of your pasta. Stir well. Give it a few minutes to soak in the flavors of the sauce, and serve hot. Bring home the flavors of your favorite Italian restaurant now right to your table.

Do I Really Need A Water Filtration System In My House Or Can I Do Without One?

Posted by Chasthrpr in Food and Drinks

If you have children or members of the family who have problems with their immune system, you need to get a water filtration system to ensure that they have access to clean water without bacteria and sediments.

We have all but the latest in computers and electronics for our household, but often times we do not think about the things we should be really focusing on like having clean and pure drinking water. Just because there are plants and places where tap water is supposed to be treated and purified it does not mean that we should not take extra measures.

In fact research shows that chlorine, which is used as a treatment to kill some of the bacteria in the water, is harmful for the organism. But just because we do not always see what is in the water it does not mean the water is safe enough to drink. Furthermore even the bottled water might not be as pure as you think. It actually all depends on the filtering system the company uses, but government regulations are not too harsh.

The ultimate solution to be sure the water that is consumed in your household is clean and pure is to get a water filtration system. More and more water filtration technologies are being developed, but as usual there are always pros and cons to each of them. There are several ways to filter water and to remove dangerous thinks like bacteria, chemicals and even tiny materials that can get in the water because of the plumbing system.

A simple test to see if your water is clean enough is to put water in a glass and leave it over night. If there are sediments deposited at the bottom of the glass the answer it obvious. Even if there are no sediments there are still chances that the water is not pure and safe enough to drink. Before the water filtration system became available people used to boil the water before using it. Nowadays purifying water is done through reverse osmosis, distillation, and filtration. Ultraviolet rays as well as carbon filters are also used to make water safer to drink.

To test the quality of your water you can get test kits which are widely available and easy to use. After you determine the level of pollution in your water and find out what kind of impurities are in the water you can make a more informed decision regarding the water filtration system you want in your house. This can be a filter system for one faucet only, for your drinking water, a shower filter to fill in your washing needs or a whole house water filter system so that you can have purified water all the time in the entire house.

It is important to find out what kind of chemicals and impurities are in your water before you actually buy a system for water filtration. The reasoning behind is that not all the filters remove all the chemicals and impurities from water. For example not all the carbon based filters remove all the contaminants from the water. One of the most effective appears to be the solid block carbon filter which manages to eliminate chlorine and fluoride which are used to treat water, bacteria and other impurities which are not removed during the treatment process or the ones that are collected from the plumbing system.

The multimedia filters are also great for removing a lot of impurities because they have several filers combined and at least one for them is a carbon filter. Whichever system you decide one water filtration is important for the health being of your family.

White Wines Of The World

Posted by James_copper in Food and Drinks

If you are an amateur when it comes to wine, you need to be well versed with the different kinds of white wine available in the market. The world of wines is diverse and enticing. Thus, for a beginner, we have made a list of the best white wine that you can lay your hands upon:

Chardonnay
This is America’s favourite wine. From the amateur to the connoisseur, everyone loves this dry wine. The grapes that are behind the creation of Chardonnay do not require much maintenance and can be grown in almost all kinds of climates. Since it is a very popular wine that can be easily made and has great sales as well, it comes for around $10 which is great value for money. You can get your Chardonnay in any tone you like, be it buttery oak, apple, pear, melon or even citrus. This wine tastes excellent with seafood, cream based dishes, pork and poultry.

Pinot Blanc
Another white wine that every wine lover worth his glass swears by is Pinot Blanc. It is native to Alsace in France but it is also grown in Italy, Germany and Hungary. It falls in the category of medium to dry white wines and is available in various tones. The flavour of Pinot Blanc is light and you can get it in tones of citrus, melon, pear or apricot.

The undertone can be smoky or mineral, according to the soil on which the grapes are grown. Ideally, this exquisite white wine should be consumed with flavoured meats, lightly flavoured cheeses, seafood and sauces with delicate flavours.

Pinot Grigio
This white wine is an all time Italian favourite. It is carefully crafted from special Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris grape. This white wine is light flavoured and has a crisp in itself. Native to the northeast part of Veneto and Friuli, the Pinot Grigio should be drunk early. It is available in melon, pear and tropical fruits flavor and has a smooth overtone. This wine falls on the acidic side and thus tastes best when complemented with light flavoured pastas, seafood or cheese with crackers.

Riesling
The Riesling wine is something that is native to the Rhein and the Mosel rivers in Germany. This wine is very popular in the white wine market and is much favoured by connoisseurs. The original Rieslings are Johannisberg Riesling and White Riesling because they are the only ones prepared by original Riesling grapes. You can get your Riesling any way you prefer dry or sweet.

The dry Rieslings are labelled “tocken” and the sweet variety is known as “Auslese”. You can get this white wine in flavours of apple, peach and pear. The undertones are also myriad from floral to mineral. Riesling wine can be consumed with spicy Asian food, pork, fish, appetizers and desserts.

Sauvignon Blanc
The Sauvignon Blanc hails from the Loire Valley of France. However, the grape that is the constituent of this white wine is also grown in Marlborough, New Zealand. It is a dry white wine whose French variety has grand herbal tones while the New Zealand variety has tropical fruit and gooseberry flavours.

The best thing about this wine is that it has a refreshing crispness that goes well with many kinds of food. Ideally, you can have your Riesling wine with vegetable dishes, artichoke dip, Thai food, Greek or Caesar salads and sushi.
