Southwest Bedspreads Will Make A Very Exciting Bedroom

Posted by Gmimexico in Interior Design

Southwest bedspreads are a must have for any southwestern, western or even Native American style. Have fun and buy bedspreads online because they are growing in popularity everyday. The southwest is full of color and life and that beautiful feel is what you capture in the beautiful Indian pattern bedspreads. Western decor is also perfect for these rich fabrics.

Bed spreads with American Indian designs compliment any rustic decor and can be used in every bedroom with distinct colors and patterns to bring out the personality of each. If you are fortunate enough to have a cabin or even if you want to bring in the popular lodge style to your rooms southwestern bedspreads will deliver that special feeling you want.

When you purchase Native American style spreads, you will find a wide variety of patterns from the southwest. Arizona and New Mexico are rich in Native cultures like Navajo and Pueblo. You can choose from some of the most popular patterns throughout history and find them in modern textiles. Home decor is rapidly becoming the new frontier for many families. Many people are choosing to improve their home rather than think of moving. With the economy fluctuating as it does, inexpensive southwest bedspreads not only bring a rich culture into your home, but you can also order them online at a discount.

Some of the most popular southwestern bedspreads that we see today are those that include both beautiful colors and distinct patterns. While the traditional southwest bed spreads colors are bright, using turquoise and bright red the western style bedspreads use more muted colors with black and white or grey as a base and dark reds for life and a rich balance.

Southwest bedspreads are admired for their great color and fabric but also for their geometric patterns. These Native American designs have been used for centuries in all types of fabrics. The Navajo were particularly fond of the geometric designs using them in their ritual sand paintings as well as rugs and blankets. What was once done with hand spun cotton thread or carded wool has now been modernized and we see beautiful soft modern materials with rich vibrant colors that the early weavers could only imagine.

Now days, many of the modern southwest bedspreads are a joint effort between the past and present mixing together the best of the past and present. Being joined together to create new one-of-a-kind designs, southwestern bedspreads now display the popular earth tones and designs that make them perfect for rustic home decorating.

If you are searching for a great way to bring life and a touch of the Native culture into your home, buy a southwest bedspread. You will love the way it make your bedroom look. And don’t stop there. Use the same spreads as chair or couch covers. They even make great fabric for curtains. You can also fold them across the bottom of the bed or lay them across the bed at an angle or across the back of a sofa. Acrylic bedspreads are so versatile that you will find yourself using it all over your home, even in art projects, wall hangings or for throw pillows.

The bed spread you choose will probably depend on what your tastes are and what kind of decorating you are involved in. Whatever you are thinking of, you will find that southwest bedspreads make the perfect southwestern accent when combined with rustic or western home decor and really look great with just about any type furniture. You can start with certain rooms and then move into others. You are going to find so many designs that you love and will want to use that you will want to bring them into every room.

Both home owners and professional home decorators love the feel that these bed covers bring to a room. Whatever your decorating style and whatever your decorating needs, you will definitely fall in love with the richness of color and warmth brought to life in your home by designing with southwest bedspreads.

The Real Angle On Wall Corner Shelf

Posted by Btobiasz in Interior Design

Have you ever looked around your home to see just how many open wall corners there are? In the average home there are open wall corners in practically every room. The average person doesn’t pay much attention to wall corners. They do not realize that there is a whole new world of decorating concepts that add new dimension to the room simply by adding one or more corner wall shelves to a room. It is not the corner wall shelf that adds the new dimension to the room, but it is what is placed on the corner wall shelf that enhances the feel of the room.

Allow me to give you a few ideas on the uses of wall corner shelves. These corner wall shelf uses have either been done by me or friends of mine. These are innovative ideas on the use of corner wall shelves and perhaps you will want to try one of these ideas or explore new creative ideas of your own.

In my living room I have a flat panel TV mounted on the wall. To go with my TV I have a surround sound audio system. While leaving the subwoofer of the surround sound audio system on top of a cabinet just below the TV, I have placed the two front and two rear speakers of the audio system on top of wall corner shelves in all four corners of the room. The result is optimal separation and superb sound quality. Watching everything from movies to sports, from music videos to my favorite weekly programming is just more enjoyable now. The wall corner shelves made this possible.

My second example of wall corner shelf is this. I have friends, Mark and Alice, who are a married couple. Both of them from time to time suffer from insomnia. You know, now and then instead of falling asleep at night, you end up staring at the ceiling and end up getting no sleep at all. So now you ask me, “What does this have to do with wall corner shelving?” Well my friend, Alice had an idea. She asked Mark to install a wall corner shelf in the bedroom, on the wall corner that is to the right side of the bed headboard. After Mark installed the corner shelving unit, Alice purchased and installed a beautiful ceramic table top fountain. The table top fountain Alice picked is called Pouring Serenity. From the first night after the fountain was added to the bedroom both Mark and Alice have had no problems falling asleep without any interruption until the alarm sounds off in the morning.

Another friend of mine has a family room in her home. On one wall of the family room is a fireplace. The fireplace is in the center of the wall. The mantle for the fireplace extends for the full width of the wall and the wall below the mantle is brick. Above the mantle on the left and right corners of the wall they installed one large wall corner shelf on each side. What she does with these wall corner shelves is display fresh flower arrangements with seasonal flowers. The result is a beautiful addition to the family room that changes all year round.

With wall corner shelves there are a world of possibilities. You can go with one corner of the room. You can go with 2, 3 or 4 corners of the room. You can put up one corner shelf on the wall. You can stack multiple corner wall shelves above each other. You have unlimited options on what you would like to display on your wall corner shelves. You are the master of your wall corner shelf domain. Let your creative ambitions lead the way…

Plaques - Decoration Honor Remembrance

Posted by Btobiasz in Interior Design

If you think about it, can you actually go anywhere in the United States without coming across a plaque? In one form or another, plaques are a part of the culture of America.

From the large plaque hanging on chains in front of your favorite restaurant to the memorial dedication of a local park to the honor the people who made the creation of the park possible, plaques are unnoticeably present in our daily lives. I say unnoticeably present because we see these plaques so often that we tend not to pay much attention to them.

Another good example of the plaques we see all around us are address plaques. They appear on the front wall of homes in everyone’s neighborhood. You see these address plaques hung on wrought iron posts on front lawns and in front yard gardens of homes landscaped with pride. Some of these plaques have as little as the address number on them. Some address plaques have the entire address of the location from which they are hanging, yet other wall address plaques have greetings like: “The Jones Family Welcome You, 1234 Main Street, Any Town, USA.” Some go as far as to change the address plaque with a greeting to match the holiday of the season. With a little imagination you can come up with a wall address plaque unique to your address.

In recent years, garden plaques have become extremely popular. These colorful and often smile generating works of garden art are the finishing touch to the beauty of natures flowers and plants. From adorable messages like: “Come in. My Flowers Want to Meet You,” to natures beautiful creatures like butterfly plaques, frog plaques, colorful sun plaques and more. Some garden plaques will also double as stepping stones.

Memorial and honorable mention plaques are by far the most recognized variety when it comes to wall plaques, because we see these plaques hanging on the walls of reception rooms in almost every business office in the country. You know what I’m saying here. The large wooden plaque on the wall for the special employees of the month, quarter and year are honored. An engraved gold plate with their name on it is inserted on the company wall plaque and will remain until that particular award comes up again.

Bronze plaques are special indeed. You see these plaques used for memorial dedications in many places such as memorial parks, corporate offices, schools, churches, museums and sport stadiums. These beautiful works of metal art honor heroes, statesmen, financial donors, religious figures, sport’s greatest contributors and the list goes on and on.

Decorative plaques have been used in home interior decorating for many years. These plaques are not for honoring anyone or for dedication. No, these plaques are works of art to display on your walls at home in order to add charming ambiance to the room and may be used outside to proudly display in your garden.

With the introduction of fiberstone and fiberglass resin, these amazing plaques look as if they were chiseled out of stone by master artists. Just a few of the choices offered are gargoyles, dragons, angels, cherubs, cupid, fairy and busts.

So by now you should have a good idea on the different styles of plaques. With all the choices available to you, I have no doubt that there is a perfect place around your home to display a few of these plaques. Whether it is inside or outside, plaques add an extra dimension of artful elegance to any place that they are displayed.

Are you the kind of individual that likes to rise above the norm? Do you go out of your way to find clothes that say this is you and no one else? Do you buy the car of your choice and then have custom wheels installed, a sound system that is far beyond compare and a custom paint job that separates you from all the other cars on the road? How about shoes, ladies? When you go out for shoes do you try on 100 pairs or more before you make your shoe purchasing decision?

If just one of these scenarios sounds like you, then the information I have to offer here may be of interest to you. What I have here will set you apart from the others. This is something that will hold its beauty for many years to come. This is something that you can put your home in a category that exceeds everyday furnishings. Yes, you can own an original and at the same time you can customize this original with your own personal touches.

Be prepared to be awe struck by today’s designer decorative wall shelf. These shelves are ultimate works of art inspired by cutting edge world class artisans. Masters of the craft of shelving, in a form that is beyond your wildest dreams, bring you a whole new form of art. These shelves are not for the timid or those without means. If you have the mindset of quality above and beyond the unexpected, then you are one of the few who know what you want and you go out and get it. You are connoisseur of fine art and know the difference between a masterpiece and amateur reproductions.

Allow me to lead you now to a place where wall shelves are created with imagination and integrity. Where the wall shelf you choose will be displayed in your home with pride. Here no matter what choice you make you will be the receiver of compliments of good taste from all who enter your dwelling and feast their eyes on this magnificent creation.

The first designer wall shelf artist I would like to introduce you to is John Dodd. John Dodd creations hold a two-fold purpose. Extremely beautiful standing alone, this wall shelf artwork may also be used as a backdrop of beauty. These artfully crafted shelves are designed to display artifacts of grandeur or living flowers to brighten up an entrance way or grace the wall of a small space.

One of the biggest influences of John’s work is his love of Architecture. This is reflected in the development of his work. One would boast that his work is simple, elegant, poetic and timeless.

The two decorative wall shelf pieces that come to mind when I think of John Dodd are “Beacon” Lighted Wood Wall Shelf and “Wall Niche” Wood Wall Shelf.

John combines textures and colors and uses components such as granite and concrete, glass and mirror along with solid woods and unusual veneers resulting in an unpredictable mixture of art and craft.

If you take the time to view these avant-garde yet delightful pieces you will realize that there is nothing to compare to the design, structure or raw eye appeal.

Next let’s explore the world of Mark Levin. It has been said about Mark that he would forgo eating, sleeping and vacations do to what he states are all inconveniences that only get in the way of his work. What Mark Levin does is take products of nature such as fruit, leaves and flowers and using solid wood sculptures extraordinary pieces of furniture. Every piece Mark creates is painstakingly hand made. After hours of detailing and hand sanding all of his pieces soaked in warm Danish oil. The result is an art form to die for.

Three excellent examples of Mark Levin’s wall shelving are “Autumn Leaf Shelf”, “Paganini Flower Petal Shelf #3″ and “Bow Shelf with Drawer.” When you have the opportunity to view these exceptional pieces, I suggest you do.

Now I will introduce you to Richard Judd. Richard had developed an interest in Zen Buddhism early on and chose to become a craftsman. He remembers reading about how your daily routine could be ongoing meditation if you are properly focused on your work. This is what led him in the direction of woodworking as a profession.

A few years ago the Dalai Lama came to Wisconsin for a visit and slept in a cherry bed that was made by Richard Judd. Richard is always incorporating the meditative process of creation which include the beauty and unique contributions of the human mind, heart, and hand. With a background in architecture, Richard work is influenced by a degree and many years of architectural training.

When thinking of Richard Judd, three wall shelving artworks come to mind. They are “Sinuous Shelf” Wood & Glass Shelf, “Half Moon Shelf” Wood Demilune Shelf and “Tusk Shelf” Wood & Glass Shelf. Here too, you should take the time to review these examples of this artist’s creative mind.

Along with the above mentioned wood working artists are Mitch Levin, Robert Meier, and Dale Broholm. I suggest that you explore the decorative wall shelving created by all of these artists. You will discover a new horizon in wall decor awaits.

Wall Mounted Lighting - Bathroom And Vanity In The Spotlight

Posted by Btobiasz in Interior Design

Over the years I’ve been contacted by many home owners who were about to do some bathroom remodeling. Their questions ranged from asking me for some suggestions on wall paneling to wall tile or wall mirrors to wall shelf. It seems though, that the most popular question I gotten over the years about bathroom remodeling is about wall lighting. I’ve received more e-mails on the question of bathroom wall lighting than any other wall decor question over the last five years. This is what moved me to write this information today.

There are many themes on the subject of bathroom wall lighting. I am going to attempt to give you a general idea on what your choices are when it comes to styles, finishes and lighting options for your bathroom and vanity lighting. From there you can explore exactly what style will fill your needs to complete the theme of your bathroom remodeling project.

I’m going to start out with what styles of bathroom wall lighting are offered. Some of these styles will be difficult to picture, so if one or more of these styles captures your attention and you would like to know more, please do an online search for bathroom lighting and then you will be able to get detailed pictures and specifications on the bathroom lighting of your choice. With that said, your bathroom and vanity wall lighting fixtures are available in Americana, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts/Mission, Asian, Bohemian, Casual, Coastal, Contemporary, Country-Cottage, Crystal, European, Indoor/Outdoor, Iron & Rustic, Kids, Themed, Traditional, Transitional, Tropical and Victorian. There may be more, but this certainly gives you a good idea of what is offered.

Finish is an important factor. The outer finish on your bathroom wall lighting must fit in with the general decor of the room. For the most part your bathroom wall lighting finishes are available in Black, Brass/Antique Brass, Bronze, Brown, Brushed Steel, Chrome, Copper, Gold, Iron, Ivory, Mirrored, Natural Iron, Nickel, Pewter, Silver, Steel and white. With all these choices you should be able to pick out a finish worthy of your bathroom theme.

Depending on what your particular application is, these bathroom wall lighting fixtures offer a variety when it comes to the number of lights you want each fixture to have. You can go with as little as one light per fixture or as many as fifteen lights per fixture or any amount of lights per fixture between 1 and 15. The choice is totally up to you and your application.

So now you know style, finish and number of lights per fixture. Next we will explore you light bulb options. What type of bulb do want to insert into the bathroom wall lighting fixture? If the fixture is a florescent tube bulb you don’t have much of a choice. If the bulb you want to insert into the fixture is some sort of decorative bulb, then you should go with an incandescent bulb. If the lighting fixture uses halogen lighting, then more than likely this lighting fixture completely hides this bulb from sight.

If you are concerned with conserving energy and lowering your electric bill, then your only choice of light bulb would be a CFL (compact florescent light). These energy saving light bulbs use less power and give off brighter light than the more power absorbing incandescent light bulbs. When CFL bulbs were first introduced they did not have much of a variety of styles to choose from. If you look around today you will find more styles of CFL bulbs being offered all the time. Xenon bulbs are also very energy efficient, but there is no style to this tiny bulb and bathroom wall lighting fixtures that use these light bulbs are concealing this bulb behind a shade or transparent/translucent cover.

You can now understand that that you have choices involving light bulbs also.

When you discover just how many beautiful bathroom/vanity wall lighting fixtures are available to you, you will see what an amazing difference the overall look of your bathroom can be with the addition of these brilliant works of art.

Wall Sconce Lighting Fixtures - A Style To Match Your Style

Posted by Btobiasz in Interior Design

Often overlooked when lighting is added to a room are wall sconce lighting fixtures. Most homes provide room lighting either by table lamps or floor lamps. Some older homes will have a lighting fixture built into the center of the ceiling. A good example of this ceiling light is found quite often in bedrooms or dining rooms. Often the light given off by ceiling lighting fixtures is ample for the area directly below the light, but lacks enough light or casts shadows to the far reaches of the room.

Wall sconce lighting fixtures will add just the right amount of light needed to supply sufficient lighting throughout the room without an overwhelming abundance of light.

Are you aware of the vast amount of sconce lighting fixtures available today? There truly is a style of sconce lighting to match the theme of any room decor. Not only do these lighting fixtures brighten up the room, but these wall mounted lighting fixtures add style, ambiance and several different moods to the room depending on how bright, how dim or what type of shade is covering the light on your wall sconce lighting fixture. Yes, you have options!

I’m going to give you a basic idea of what is available to you when it comes to wall sconce lighting fixtures. From there you can explore in detail what style is your style.

Wall sconces have been lighting hallways for centuries. I will not go into the history of wall sconce lighting, although sconces have been around for thousands of years since the invention of wall sconce candle lighting. Anyway, I will start out in the present time and give you an idea of the great variety of styles sconces are available in today. The selection of styles available to you are Art Deco, Arts and Crafts - Mission, Asian, Coastal, Contemporary, Country - Cottage, Iron, Kids, Rustic - Lodge, Themed, Tiffany, Traditional, Transitional, Tropical and Victorian. I don’t have enough space to describe each of the previous styles. If you are intrigued by one of these or more, look them up online for complete details.

Moving right along, let me inform you of the finishes available to you. Some of the finishes are the same material used to construct the sconce. Some of the finishes are applied over other materials to produce different color schemes. The variety of different finishes available to you are Aluminum, Amber, Black, Brass, Bronze, Brown, Chrome, Copper, Gold, Green, Grey, Iron, Nickel, Pewter, Rust, Silver, Titanium, White, Wood and Yellow. I’m sure there are more finishes, since the color spectrum is endless. To get a better idea of what each finish actually looks like, search wall sconce lighting online.

Wall sconce color can refer to the color of the fixture itself or can refer to the color of the shade or cover around the light of the sconce. Either way your selection of colors are (but not limited to) Amber, Beige, Black, Blue, Brown, Clear, Gold, Green, Grey, Multi-Colored, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Silver, White and Yellow. You can obviously see that there is a wall sconce made for almost every application or theme a room has to offer.

The types of lighting available to illuminate your sconces are Florescent, Halogen, Incandescent, LED and Xenon. If you wish to conserve on energy and save on your electric bill, then florescent and LED consume less power to operate.

The price range for these wall mounted lighting fixtures varies from a few dollars to over one thousand dollars each depending on if you buy store brands or designer created sconce lighting. Of course, the quality and craftsmanship will vary according to cost.

Wall sconce lighting fixtures are a beautiful addition to any room. Since sconce lighting is often overlooked, the use of these lights will provide additional artful ambiance to any room in your home, which will set your home apart from the norm. There literally is a style to match your style.
