How To Build Self Confidence For Athletes

The best advantage any athlete can have is a great sense of self confidence. That inner feeling of trusting your instincts and skills will aid you more than any other factor when game time rolls around.

A self confident player can take the field, court, or arena and be poised and prepared to play his or her best. Just like athletic skill, self confidence must be practiced and maintained.

A player cannot expect to immediately excel at a sport, so he or she should also be prepared to complete activities that will build his or her self confidence. Many coaches work in drills or activities into their regular practices that will boost a player’s ability to trust his or her decisions in the event.

Self confidence is important in every sporting event or activity, but it seems more so in an individual sport rather than a team sport. In team sports, you can rely on your fellow teammates to assist with plays and boost your spirits if you happen on a rough patch of play.

Individual sports make players focus within, requiring athletes to create internal motivation that teammates would usually provide. Additionally, athletes who compete in individual sports are more likely to feel magnified effects from losing. In a team sport, if an individual does poorly, the team can adjust their strategy.

However, in an individual sport, it is up to the athlete to perform at top levels consistently. Regardless of the sport or activity in which you are engaged, achieving and maintaining your self confidence will enhance your performance.

If you are part of a sports team, look for ways to build your self confidence through building team confidence. For example, your football team might be a leader in defense, but your quarterback sacks help put them there.

Your doubles tennis team may be ranked in first place, partially thanks to your strong serving ability and excellent back hand form. For every praise of your team, find a way praise to yourself.

This may be difficult at first, since athletes are schooled in the ways of teamwork, with the old adage there is no I in team,but your personal self confidence will boost the overall performance of the team.

However, it should be said there is a fine line between self confident praising and boasting. Whereas self confidence can enhance a team, boasting or arrogance can destroy it.

Rifts form between teammates and you may find yourself separated from your fellow athletes if your attitude turns you into a braggart.

The best way to gain and maintain your athletic self confidence is to practice whatever sport in which you are participating. It does not matter if you are five or eight-five, practice will reinforce you knowledge of the game and your confidence in your performance.

When you know you can successfully execute a play or have truly mastered a specific skill, your self confidence will grow. Learn from your mistakes. Instead of beating yourself up over a mistake, loss, or missed opportunity, find a way to better your playing level.

If you are having difficulty in one area of the sport, focus on it during practice. Establish a mindset that positively reinforces your skills in order to build your self confidence and do not allow yourself to think negative or harsh thoughts regarding your performance.

The best athletes are not those individuals with the greatest skill level they are the ones who are truly confident in their capacity in the game. Regardless of what sport you choose to pursue, trusting your own judgments and skill level is a sure fire way to be successful in the athletic area.

A Successful Mindset Breeds Success

You hear it all the time: “success is a state of mind.” There are people who would argue that success is a natural result of proper planning, preparation and focused action, and that viewpoint certainly holds a grain of truth - but there are also many exceptions to disprove that “rule.”

Have you ever wondered how two people can attempt the same objective in the same way and only one of them succeed? Is it sheer luck? Timing? Tenacity? More often than not, it’s a person’s mind-set that determines whether they fail or succeed.

What is a mind-set, anyway? Typically a mind-set refers to your predominant state of mind day to day. It’s what you think about, focus on, and expect from your daily experiences. Think negatively, expect the worst, feel pessimistic about your options and that’s exactly what you’ll seem to draw into your life. Likewise, think positively, expect the best and focus on a successful outcome and you get it most of the time.

Makes sense, right? But how exactly does this work? Why is a success mind-set so important? There are three big reasons:

1.A success mind-set boosts your confidence and self-belief.
A lack of belief in yourself usually comes along with a sense of powerlessness and futility, which is the exact opposite of a success mind-set. Lack of confidence means you see no point in trying to be successful because it won’t happen anyway. Obviously, this type of mind-set is a recipe for failure in any endeavor.

Having a true success mind-set, on the other hand, means you believe in yourself and your capabilities. You believe you can succeed at nearly anything you try, and you’re willing to give it your best shot. Even better, the more you do try, the more confidence and self-belief you build - until you’re virtually unstoppable!

2.A success mind-set strengthens your determination.
Without a success mind-set, one failure is enough to convince you that pursuing your goals is a waste of time. Tenacity and determination don’t exist in your world. If you don’t become a raging success the first time you try, you surmise that it simply wasn’t meant to be. Unfortunately, few things worth having are obtained so easily!

A success mind-set, however, strengthens your awareness that a failure is not the end of the story - it’s just one more way that didn’t work out the way you planned. In fact, a true success mind-set makes it obvious that the only true failure occurs when you stop trying.

3.A success mind-set encourages fruitful actions.
Have you ever found yourself wandering in circles because you didn’t know the best way to approach a specific goal? Perhaps you had an idea of the best course of action but you felt intimidated by some of the action steps required. As a result, you may have kept sabotaging your efforts as you searched in vain for an easier or less frightening way to your goal.

With a true success mind-set, you’ll always know the most effective action steps that will lead directly to your goal. As already discussed, you’ll also have the inner confidence and determination to pursue them - which is a sure recipe for . . . you guessed it; success!

If I had to sum up how to develop a success mind-set into as few words as possible, I’d say this:
- Go for your dreams.
- Think positively.
- Believe in yourself.
- Believe you can do better.
- Learn, grow and develop yourself.
- Be willing to take chances.
- Give it your all.
- Expect the best in every situation.
- Be willing to fail.
- When you fall down, get back up and try again.

Keep doing that and you can’t help but become successful, from the inside out.

How To Build Your Self-Confidence At Work

Many people wish they felt more secure about their abilities on the job. In other words, they’re looking for increased self-confidence when it comes to performing the work, dealing with coworkers, and handling tough situations. If you’re one of these people, you’re not alone. What can you do to feel more self-assured about your job?

First, remember that you are not your job. That is, if you make a mistake at work, this does not mean that you are stupid, worthless, or that you’re in the wrong position. It’s all too easy to take mistakes personally, seeing them as a reflection of your true person rather than for what it is: a mistake.

Even though it may not always appear so, everyone makes mistakes from time to time. The best way to deal with a mistake is to own up to it right away and present a solution.

This shows that you are honest, and by presenting ways to fix the problem, your boss can send you on your way to deal with the issue.

Acting honestly and straightforwardly is best for you–you’ll feel better about yourself–and best for the company (which again will help you feel better).

Another common issue is feeling insecure when it comes to coworkers. Many people feel that they do not fit in, are unsure how to handle conflict, or have an overbearing coworker or boss that they don’t know how to communicate with.

Any of these feelings can wear at your self-esteem. You may feel you have nothing to offer the group, whether socially or on projects, you avoid conflict, and may allow others to step on you. If socialization is a problem, it will require you to step out of your comfort zone a bit.

This does not mean you need to jump right in with a large company gathering; rather, take it slow by opening conversations with one or two coworkers.

Chances are you’ll have something in common. Asking questions about the other person is always a great way to go; just avoid questions with simple yes or no answers.

When dealing with conflict resolution and difficult employees, learning some proven communication techniques may be necessary. Consider attending a course on conflict resolution and dealing with difficult people.

In the meantime, remember that the overbearing person likely has a lot of insecurities as well, and these are what cause the behavior. In the midst of conflict, do your best to avoid being pulled into argumentative situations.

Don’t reward the other person’s behavior by getting upset or immediately backing down. If necessary, say you’ll continue the conversation when everyone has had a chance to cool down.

Dealing with negative coworkers is never fun. Try and remember that your self worth is not dependent on the coworker’s approval, even if that person is your boss.

It could be you’re feeling unsure about your skills. This one is pretty easy–learn more! Many companies offer continuing education options, will pay for schooling, or offer professional development in house. Whatever your employer offers, take advantage.

If your company does not have this option, find some good books on the subject. Ask your colleagues for suggestions, or if you’re a member of any type of professional group, seek advice there as well. Many of your peers will have good suggestions on what’s worth looking into.

Finally, give yourself some challenges. One great way to build your self confidence at work is to take on a special project or extra work. If you choose something you feel passionate about or something in your specialty area, you can show yourself and your colleagues that you are able to produce results.

Even if you fail, you’re showing initiative and willingness by taking on special projects. Knowing that you put yourself out there, rather than sitting on the sidelines, can be a great confidence booster. And the same can be said for when it goes well.

Avoiding The Monday Morning Blues

Your alarm clock starts ringing and the horrific reality floods over you leaving you in an uncomfortable cold sweat. It’s Monday morning again and you have to go to work. If there is anyone in the world that looks forward to Monday mornings, then I haven’t met them yet. Everybody with a job goes through the same muddled, fuzzy few hours every Monday when all you want to do is crawl back into bed and pull the duvet over your head.

If you hate your job and you dread that Monday morning feeling, then fear not as there are ways to make those fist few hours of the week a little more bearable, and maybe even enjoyable for some. If you are one of the workers that is already thinking about Monday on a Sunday afternoon, help is at hand. The key to escaping the Monday morning blues is a positive attitude as that is what can separate you from the other miserable clones that tread the same piece of carpet as you every day.

Positivity can make a massive difference to your day, and can even translate to your work-mates. If the people you work with are tired and lethargic, don’t let them influence your attitude. it may take a few weeks to encourage a more positive attitude, but keep at it and your peers will escape the blues with you. A good mood can be contagious so keep moaning and misery to a minimum and reap the rewards that your happiness will deliver.

As the boy scouts motto says - be prepared. These words can be used to ensure that Monday morning, before and after your arrival at work, is smooth and stress-free. Preparation for the new week can begin as early as Friday afternoon and can help you ease in with no problem at all. Take the time to get any work finished, desk cleared and e-mails replied to so that your arrival on Monday will be a smooth, relaxing transition.

The weekend will have allowed you to grab an hour or two of extra sleep so your body will be expecting that come Monday morning. Avoid getting up early by using your Sunday evening to prepare. Wash your hair, make your lunch and fill your car with petrol - all of these can give you that little bit longer in bed to set you up for the day.

Your shower can make the world of difference to the way you start your day. Don’t be afraid to switch the setting to cold and let those jets of chilled water take the place of your morning coffee. The cold water will wake you up and set the tone for the rest of your pre-work routine. Grab a coffee before you leave and try to take some time before you leave home to get in the right frame of mind for the day and rest of the week.

Ensure you have something to talk about with your colleagues by making the most of your weekend. Plan ahead for your weekend so every minute is worthwhile, this will help you get back to work with minimal apprehension. It will have a positive effect on you and your work-mates to talk about your weekend activities. An empty weekend will make going back to work even more painful and depressing.

If you can’t make your Monday mornings any more enjoyable by following these guidelines, then maybe a more extreme answer is necessary. You might be in the wrong job so it could be worth thinking a little harder about what you want to do. You may decide that you need to keep working, either through financial obligations or responsibilities, so that leaves only one choice - call in sick every Monday. Although this will inevitably lead to the Tuesday morning blues so your only option is to grin and bear it.

80-0mph In 3.7 Seconds: My Wealth Realisation Experience

As a child I was told to save my money. The pennies were saved up religiously and credited to my post office account along with my birthday and Christmas money. For all of my youth I saved my money. In the days when you could get four sweets for a penny, that represented a big investment. I looked at every pound as four-hundred sweets.

Serendipity strikes at the most opportune of times. My first official payslip arrived when I was fifteen years old. This was courtesy of me getting my National Insurance number over a month early. I was still at school whilst earning a wage at a restaurant.

On my sixteenth birthday I convinced my parents that I needed a moped to get to and from work. Reluctantly, they agreed. My need to cycle and walk far ended on that day. I enjoyed my bit of independence and wasted no opportunity to drive around on my moped. It allowed me to get places faster and I was still saving money.

When I turned seventeen my family’s reticence about me riding a bike on the road led them to all contribute towards a crash driving course. After five days of intensive driving instruction, I passed my driving test and my grandfather donated his second-hand Ford Escort to my cause - I was delighted.

Back then it was all about speed for me. I became ever more curious about how fast my car was. Spending my former years in an era where nobody that I knew wore a seat belt, I still had a tendency not to wear one, despite it being law. After all, I was king of the road and I could go faster than ever before, without fear of potential repercussions.

One day I decided to go and meet a friend who lived about ten miles away. It was a nice, sunny day. I rolled down my windows and turned up the music before setting off. For some reason I also buckled my seatbelt. I have no idea what made me put on my seat belt that day but I did.

Whilst cruising down a country lane I was overtaken by a chap on a motorbike. He left me in his wake, as though I was parked. I wasn’t having anyone going faster than me so I put my foot flat on the accelerator.

I rapidly gained speed and swung around country corners with a reckless regard for safety. I have little idea of exact speeds or timings as I hit my final corner on that trip but it was probably around 80mph. I only saw the motorbike in front of me and wanted to keep up with it.

Suddenly, I went into a skid at a corner laden with gravel and lost control of the vehicle. My first reaction was to keep on turning the steering wheel to rectify the situation. After a second or two of that my wheels locked and took me careering across the road and into a tree and a ditch.

Fortunately, I did not hit the tree square on - it only peeled off the right-hand, front panel of my car. The ditch, however, was enough to send my car into a spin and I felt the sensation of rolling several times.

The car finished up over thirty metres past the ditch, with broken pieces and assorted contents from the boot of the car strewn in between. It was upside down, all glass had been shattered and the back of the car and the front, passenger side had been crushed. The only part of the car not to crush was the front, driver’s side. I was suspended by my seatbelt to what was now the roof of the car - without a bruise, ache or a scratch on me.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The cost to my pride was great and the financial cost of buying another car took my life savings of over 800 pounds. When I finally released myself from the safe clutches of my seat belt and climbed out of the gap in the front windscreen, I stared at the carnage I’d left.

That day I lost my life savings and was spared my life. I slowed down that day and my perspective changed. My body is a vehicle and I appreciate the need to ease-off occasionally, for my own wellbeing.

I believe that given the choice of my life savings and my life, I would make the same choice every time. True wealth has a value unto itself.

A Teacher Who Have A Heart

There are different types of a teacher, with different approach, style and of course attitude. Some teacher doesn’t know what the real reason why they chose the profession, they are just there because they earn from it. Others so strict and think they are the creator (God), and of course some there are who really do their jobs as a guide. What kind of teacher you prepare?

For me I want a kind of teacher who inspire. I remember I have a teacher named Cecile she’s a teacher in Math, and at the same time a mother to us. She inspire us in anyway she could, before we start our class, she is the one who says the prayer, never in our entire class she forgets it. I like her approach, she always tell us a inspirational short story before we go to our lesson, well I think that is her style just to catch all our attention, She is the best teacher for me because we feel her presence and she is concern, she was always there. Her class is the liveliest among the other class whenever she is the teacher. Her heart is on her hand.

It is not enough for her just to teach her students on her subject matter, but she really do way just to know her student. Still in my mind she makes us to do a simple bio-data written on an index card: The details are the name, address birthday, name of guardian and phone no. I ask her why? She said just for her reference. But later on I found out that all the birthdays are all in her calendar and whenever there is a celebrant she is the one the first person who will greet us. She really makes us feel special like her real children. Make sure that she gives us even a simple gift. So that’s why she is still remembered by her students.

There are teacher who makes their student like a robot, only there just to give lectures recitations, homework’s, reports and examination. They give grade to the student at the end of the semester then after that start again with another group of students. What is the influence or inspiration that they give to their students? Nothing, just a plain teacher and student relationship, that’s all.

Teacher must have a heart for their student; they must treat their student as their own children. The parents entrust their children to the school and they were confident that their children are well treated and give the proper guidance as well. They are second parent of the children because most of their times are spend at the school. Teacher must give the good example and must teach their student not only in academic but also they have to teach them to be a good person they maybe.

Each student possesses problems; they are just waiting to be approach by their teachers. Teacher must have a heart knows how to care and respect their student to help them to learn, for them to inspire.
