The Law Of Attraction Has Been Called Many Different Things

Posted by Art_stanley in Personal Development

Since the release of the movie, “The Secret” it seems that everyone is talking about the Law of Attraction. People I never suspected had any interest in personal growth or self-help are chatting up a storm about their newfound empowerment and insight. More power to them. The more people who recognize and make conscious use of their power in a constructive way, the more it benefits everyone.

But the Law of Attraction isn’t anything new. It’s a natural law that’s been available to every human on the planet from the date of their birth and no one is unaffected by this great power, whether they are consciously aware of it or not. That’s the thing those who shun “The Secret” or anything related to conscious creation just don’t understand.

The Law of Attraction is defined in the movie as ‘like attracts like’. in the world of self-help and personal development, the Law of Attraction means this: you get what you think about.

In his book, You’ll See It When You Believe It, Wayne Dyer put it this way, “You too see, in your own life, essentially what you believe. If, for example, you believe strongly in scarcity, think about it regularly, and make it the focus of your conversations, I am quite certain that you see a great deal of it in your life. On the other hand, if you believe in happiness and abundance, think only about them, talk about them with others, and act on your belief in them, it is a very good bet that you are seeing what you believe.”

You may have heard of it in any number of ways, including…

* Like Causes Produce Like Effects
* The Law of Sowing and Reaping
* Karma
* Thoughts Become Things
* Action/Reaction

Essentially, all these titles refer to the same great power we call the Law of Attraction. It’s a natural law of the universe, one which creates in our life with or without our conscious awareness.

Each of us gets out of life what we put in. As Earl Nightingale stated many years, “good attitude, and good results. Fair attitude, fair results. Bad attitude, bad results.” You could just as easily substitute the word, ‘attitude’ with ‘effort’ or ‘action’. And everyone has heard this proverb at one time or another, “As you sow, so shall you reap.

Author Wallace Wattles revealed the magic of creation in a ‘thoughts become things’ context when he stated, “Thought is the only power that can produce tangible riches from formless substance.” At some point in your life you were probably warned that taking a certain action could have negative consequences that would mysteriously appear. You were being warned about the power of karma.

Yes, the Law of Attraction has been called many different things. But its power is unquestioned. We tend to understand that like causes produce like effects with respect to certain behaviors and actions, but many of us overlook its constant presence and how it affects every aspect of our lives.

What you put forth is what comes back to you. Keep this in mind at all times and you can create your own reality as you desire it to be.

How To Invest In Yourself - Your Mind, Body, Soul And Planet

Posted by Kevin03 in Advice

Investing in furthering your education? What is this all about and why should you do it? Don’t you think it sounds a bit tedious? ABSOLUTELY, NO WAY! It is all about your life and your continuing existence, not to mention the future of your family, your community and the planet as a whole. What could possibly be more exciting than this?

The reasons for furthering your education beyond that of high school or university are plentiful. You are not only likely to reach a higher position career wise, but you will have all manner experiences, opportunities and new doors opening to you. It is a sad but true fact that most folk would agree that they were not properly equipped for the big wide world in a thorough way when at school.

Continuing with your education will make sense of the saying about the world being your oyster. Your potential will be unleashed and your talents revealed which may well lead you to success in life and the fulfillment of all your dreams.

Awareness of what action to take, or even not to take is the key. You can change your environment by being able to do things that others can’t because they do not have the knowledge. When you are well informed it makes you less worried about change so many more options are open to you.

Learning is in itself a skill. Having an open mind about new ideas is vital to the development of your personality. Discover your particular strengths and build on them. By the same token, be aware of your weaknesses and get rid of them. Develop your passions, look for new trends and consider every new opportunity you are presented with.

Use what you have learned and act upon it. Action is just as important (if not more so) than learning because if you do not act on what you have learned, nothing is likely to change.

Although creating wealth is a very good reason to learn, it’s not all about money. It’s about the ultimate lifestyle opportunity of being able to choose.

Your improved lifestyle can create health and well being, so find and work on your artistic passion and nurture your inner being by meditation and spirituality.

Its all about discovering ways to look after you new life and wealth, by legally and properly constructed financial tools such as trusts which not only protect your assets but teach you the tax secrets of the rich.

Learning about new technologies, and coming up with inventive ways of using what you have learned will save you time and money. Find out about new ways to preserve energy and lessen your impact on the planet. It’s all about creating generational changes and learning to work things out and analyze the facts yourself.

Naturally, learning is not cheap and some seminars and courses can be quite expensive. However, if you consider this expense to be an investment in yourself you will soon realize how worthwhile this is to help you to live life to the full.

Comprehension And The Art Of Speed Reading

Posted by Jspade in Time Management

Speed reading can improve your life. Speed reading can also improve your ability to assimilate information at an astonishing rate, in turn, making you a more valuable employee. While the ability to read quicker may be advantageous for some, for others it is more a matter of improving their comprehension of what they have read as well as being able to hold the information.

The average rate a person will read at is about two words per second with good retention, for most that will be fast enough. Engaging the use of a speed reading course has shown to improve a persons reading speed by four to six words per second without any loss of retention to the material. Over time, with the use of a speed reading course, you will be able to increase your reading speed 10 or more words per second with better than average comprehension.

The Course

Speed reading courses are designed to help readers choose the words worth reading and which ones are not. Being able to look at a word without having to concentrate on each and every letter to visualize the word is already practiced by most readers. By using a speed reading course you will be able to eliminate more words in a sentence increasing your rate of reading.

Speed and Quality

Perhaps one the biggest challenges in speed reading is what is termed subvocalization. Children are taught early on to read to themselves causing them to sound out every word in their head as they are reading. With speed reading, the words are not silently read in their mind while going through the material and only the words that have meaning to the context of the material is retained to become part of the comprehension of the material.

Different instruction techniques are taught for speed reading and they may not all have the same desirable outcome for each person looking to improve their reading speed. Unlike repetitious physical tasks where the same movements performed with practice will enable a person to perform the task quicker, speed reading attempts to train the brain to recognize only the words that are important to the materials being read without the need to hear them in their mind. However, similar to physical tasks, practice in speed reading will increase their reading speed as time goes on.

Some belive that speed reading is a technique set aside for genius types only. Not true. Speed reading is a skill that all can acquier. There are steps that you must follow that will help to increase your reading speed and most importantly your comprehension as well.

Learning To Speed Read

There are a number of ways that you can learn the art of speed reading. The first step on your journey is to take a speed reading test so that you can gauge your current level and give you a base to see how you are progressing.

Next you will want to find some form of speed reading instruction. Some prefer audio tapes that take you though various tips and tricks of learning how to accelerate your reading. Others prefer books or a combination of book and audio.

The method you choose is up to you,the important thing is to stick with it and check your progress every step of the way.

Francis Hesse will help you find all you need to become a proficiant speed reader.

3 Dirty Secrets Self-Help Gurus Don’t Want Beginners To Know

Posted by Jbb3141 in Advice

Do you find yourself taking the first step to changing your life by purchasing one self-help product after another only to discover they give you a lot of theory but very little on how to actually use the information on a regular basis?

For years I ran into the same problem. I desperately wanted to improve my life but often found it difficult to turn their theory into something I could use every day. There was something missing.

After going through one book after another, buying one “guaranteed” self-help product after another, I finally figured out what was missing. It really wasn’t that the information was wrong or necessarily incomplete. I found three things that almost made what I was reading useless.

It’s like a financial advisor telling you that you need to save money if you want to retire but not telling you things you can do to save money on a monthly basis.

Almost everything I read was very good at explaining the theory behind the idea or concept but very bad at then showing me what I needed to do.

I love theory but I also need examples, exercises, and step-by-step instructions on how to apply the theory. I bet you’ll agree that the majority of people learn best this way as well. Most self-help products fall short in these areas.

Finally, after working my way through all the theoretical information, I almost NEVER found a product or read a book that showed me how to take what I’ve just read and integrate all the pieces together then USE them in my life on a daily basis.

Let me give you an example. I’ll use the concept of the Law of Attraction. I’ve watched DVDs about it and read many books dealing with the idea. They were all very good at telling me the Law of Attraction simply states that “like attracts like,” that whatever you keep in the forefront of your thoughts is what you tend to attract into your life. Powerful information, right? OK, but now what? How can you use that information??

I had other questions like:
- How do I actually use the Law of Attraction?
- What steps are required and in what order?
- How often do I use the information, daily, twice a day, constantly?

I rarely found answers to those questions or had to spend money on several products to get all my questions answered. One source may have a limited method to follow, one might give me a few simple exercises, or more frequently I’d get none of those answers.

Theory without practical application is almost useless. If you don’t know how to apply what you’ve read to your life you might as well not have read the material. If you can’t get a good grasp on the material through easy to follow examples, exercises, and instructions, you’ve wasted your money and more importantly your time. If you can’t apply the material to your life on a daily basis, how can you ever change your life?

A good, useful self-help product must be able to answer the following three questions with a resounding Yes!

1. Is there real-world application along with the theory?
2. Are there step-by-step instructions, exercises, and examples?
3. Are the different parts integrated into a system that can be used on a daily basis?

The more no’s you have, the faster you should run away from the product!

All the theory in the world is useless unless you can apply it quickly and easily on a regular basis. You’ve wasted your money, time and sometimes left feeling lost and betrayed if you can’t use what you’ve purchased.

You CAN improve your life, you CAN achieve your goals, you CAN get everything you want in life if you’re given the proper tools and shown how to use them. If you can answer the three questions above with a Yes, you can rest easy knowing you’ve found the right self-help product for you.

What Do Your Symptoms Mean?

Posted by Healthpsych in Stress Management

If you are an energetic person who likes to succeed, who likes to get things done yesterday, you might find it extremely helpful to slow down your pace when learning stress management techniques. Here’s why:

Enthusiasm may push you to take on many techniques at once and do them for too long. You run a high risk of burning out and losing interest if you try to do too much too fast. Furthermore, you are likely to feel guilty for coming up with excuses to avoid exercising at all.

You may feel confused when you begin to experience more energy as a result of doing relaxation and stress management exercises. Resist the temptation to pour this extra energy back into your work. Rather, use it for further rest and enjoyment.

Sometimes, symptoms of stress persist in spite of regular relaxation and stress reduction. If you are a conscientious person, and have been practicing regularly, this is disheartening. The following are just a few of the most common reasons why this might be happening to you.

Some people are highly suggestible and begin to experience every symptom that they hear about. For example, one very tense policeman joined a relaxation group to overcome his tendency to hyperventilate after periods of high stress. He found himself experiencing all of the physical symptoms described by other group members: migraines, lower back pain, rapid heartbeat, and so forth. These tendencies may be combated by combining thought-stopping or coping statements with progress muscle relaxation.

A surprising number of people are attached to their symptoms, which serve a very definite purpose. For example, your headaches may get you out of interpersonal situations you want to avoid, without having to take responsibility for disappointing others. You can discover whether your symptom rescue you from more unpleasant experiences by keeping a log of when you get your symptoms and the activities (or would-be activities) that surround them. If you suspect that your symptoms provide you “secondary gain” in this manner, you may want to consider getting assertiveness training. It should provide you with the incentive and the tools to be more direct in saying no.

Your symptoms of tension may be a signal that you are not dealing effectively with something in your life and that you are covering up your feelings. For example, you may be angry with your family but not sharing this fact with them. You might be putting off talking about a particular conflict because you don’t see any way of improving matters. A nurse was visited every other weekend by a very spoiled stepdaughter. She had agreed to the arrangement when she married and now felt trapped by it. Within three years, the visits invariably produced a migraine headache. To counteract this symptom, she finally negotiated a new contract with her husband to spend visiting days on her own doing what she liked, while he “babysat.”

The people around you are apt to be aware that you are withholding stressful feelings and that something is wrong. Nevertheless, they can’t read your mind and are unlikely to come to your rescue. You know best what it is you need. Letting others know your feelings and what you want opens the way to engaging them in helping you make a change.

Your symptoms may be a way of getting taken care of when you feel that you can’t directly ask for help or consideration. If you feel tired and have a backache, someone else may have to do the cooking and cleaning and keeping the house quiet. Ask yourself when your symptoms first began. What was going on in your life that might have contributed to them? One elderly woman who had suffered from periodic colitis since childhood recalled that her abdominal cramps began when her younger twin brothers were born. She remembered that the only time her busy mother ever held her and rocked her was when she had the symptoms. She noted that she tended to get colitis only when her husband left her alone in the evenings.

It is possible that you have developed the symptoms of an important person in your life as part of your identification with them. For example, you may not only have learned to be hard-working and successful from your father, but also to deal with stress in a similar manner. Carrying your tension in your stomach, you may come to the point of getting an ulcer just like your father. Since characteristic ways of responding to stress are generally learned, ask yourself who in your family shares your same symptoms. It’s often easier to learn how they are not dealing effectively with the stress in their lives than to see it in yourself. The next step is to observe and see if the same is true for you.

If you continue to have difficulty reducing stress in your life, consider consulting a professional. You may be interested in stress management groups that are becoming more commonly available. Your medical doctor or health plan is a good place to start.

An Overview Of Motivation Theory

Posted by Comlev in Personal Development

Motivation is simply defined as the one that kindles change and concentration. As Elbert Hubbard says, “Positive anything is better than negative nothing.” True isn’t it? Motivation is the one that keeps people to stay focus. It’s motivation that helps people to stay optimistic amidst all the challenges that they encounter in their everyday life.

Literally speaking, motivation is based on the word “motivus” which is a Latin term that denotes a moving cause. It is the element that pushes an individual to take action or initiate change. It is the one that keeps an individual to get going.

To best explain the importance of motivation and how it affects the behavior of a certain individual, you should look into this article and discover the whole story of motivation theory.

There are many motivation theories that were conceptualized on account of giving people a vivid picture of what motivation is and how important it is to be motivated. Here are some of the theories of motivation that you should take into account.

Consistency Theory

The consistency theory is based on the principle that people need some form of regularity and control in their lives. It is very important to have consistency for the reason that it is the key element that binds everything as one. Being consistent is necessary not only because it holds everything together but also because it drives people to reach that standard level of stability in this world.

Self-discrepancy Theory

This theory deals with the human self-esteem and how it is affected by the dealings with cognitive elements of the self. People are encouraged to have that sense of consistency depending on their point of views or how they perceive things. This sometimes led to some problems because people have different expectations. This is evident when people don’t get what they wanted for example you want to win the first prize for the essay writing contest but you end up on the 3rd place. You feel dissatisfied and depressed for you don’t get what you like to achieve.

Reactance Theory

Reactance theory is based on the notion that when people don’t feel comfortable and they think that they can do what they want, they experience a bad feeling. This bad feeling is known as reactance. When they feel this, they will be motivated to do what they were threatened to do, which is a sign that their freedom has not been suppressed.

Goal-setting Theory

The goal-setting theory implies that people set goals for themselves. But you see setting goals for yourself is more effective unlike when other people set your goals. This is because people are more encouraged to fulfill the goals that they have set for themselves for it’s based on what they believe.

Acquired Needs Theory

The theory of acquired needs explains that needs may vary depending on people’s experiences and these needs may change as time goes by. This theory is also referred to as the Three-Need Theory or Learned Need Theory. Generally, the needs of the people are classified into three. These are the achievement, affiliation and power.

On the whole, understanding all the theories of motivation can be a great help to you especially when it comes to harnessing your leadership skills. Motivation is a very important ingredient in the success of every individual. Without it, your life will not be bright.
