Why Goals Fail - New Research

Posted by Amarosy in Goal Setting

There are two reasons why goals fail or we give up trying to achieve a specific goal. When I first learnt this, I knew I finally found the Holy Grail of goal achievement.

The first reason is the “Brick Wall”. Often if we make an attempt or several attempts at achieving a goal, we can hit what they call, a Brick Wall. That is often the main reason for failed goals. Too many failed attempts at reaching for a specific goal will stop us from reaching again. To overcome this, write down all the times you attempted a goal and why it failed. By identifying the causes, and by bringing them into your consciousness, as opposed to having them lie dormant and a hidden hindrance, you can then analyse the past reasons of failed attempts and start to think laterally about how to retry and this time achieve them.

The second reason is the “Unrecognised Goal”. Yes, sounds simple enough. But when we have too many unacknowledged goals in our past, we lose sight of our innate ability of great achievement. Our subconscious finally gives up. What we have to do is list all of our past goals THAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED and make a big deal about it. Yes, pat yourself on the back, go out and celebrate each achievement, acknowledge yourself for work well done. When I finally did this, my whole world turned around. And now, every time I achieve a goal - no matter how small - I make sure I congratulate myself in some way. Reward yourself, make it a real celebration. It works! Our subconscious fine-tuning needs this subtle but extremely important ongoing support.

ESTABLISHING A GOAL

To set a goal, it must have all of the following attributes to be successfully achieved:

1. It must be inspirational. This is probably the most important of all. The goal had to be inspirational to us, not someone else - but to us alone. It must make us leap for joy at the thought of achieving it. Make our hearts race at the mere thought of it. The more inspirational the goal is to us, the more easily we will achieve it.

2. It must be achievable and realistic. Although it is great to stretch our imagination a little, if the goal is subconsciously too unachievable or outside our mental boundaries of reality, we are less likely to attain what we want.

3. It must be specific. If the goal is vague or has no timelines, it lacks the motivational force for our subconscious to follow it through. A goal should always be quantified in terms of what, why, how, and especially when.

4. It must be measurable. If our goal is measurable, it enhances our ability to create feedback mechanisms to monitor, control and correct the process of achieving it.

5. It should be long-term. Yes, long-term rather than short term goals are better to achieve. Sorry to disappoint you, but the long-term goal, as unenthusiastic as that may sound, has the most meaning and most benefit to us. Short term goals, whilst easier to achieve, have a short term fulfilment effect. It’s like a quick shot, a bubble that bursts too soon and in the long term, when we tire of the quick fixes, we give up on our real long-term aspirations.

CREATING YOUR GOALS

First of all, write down all your goals for the coming year. If they are long term or may take a few steps to achieve, break them down into Action Steps - smaller, more easily attainable actions with specific dates, and list how they can be measured so you know when you have achieved them.

Secondly, give them a purpose. A wise man once said, “For every goal there must be a purpose, the higher the purpose the more likely you will achieve it”. When we give our goals a higher purpose, we automatically feel more motivated in striving towards it. For example, if you want to achieve a certain weight goal, your higher purpose could be better health and improved fitness that will make you more able and confident to achieve better work opportunities.

And finally, but most importantly, write down your ‘ideal scene’. Your Ideal Scene should describe the final outcome of your goal and demonstrate when you are on target. This ideal scene is one of the most critical steps in achieving goals because it provides your subconscious with a picture to attain.

How To Write Goals For A Successful Goal Setting Outcome

Posted by Successu7 in Goal Setting

There are likely hundreds of different ways of goal setting. However, out of all the ways of goal setting there are some important steps when writing goals which are likely to make it possible for you to achieve the goal.

Looking at the stats, we know that only around 7% of people goal set. By this the 7% are people who consciously decide on an outcome they want to achieve. However, looking at another important stat with regard to finance, we find that only 1 out of 100 becomes rich or should we say that it is the level of above a million dollars in income, multi-millions in assets, etc. And only 4 others will be financially independent.

Though goal setting does not have to be about your financial sector, it still is a good measurement. After all for many who set and achieve those big goals it generally directly or indirectly made them rich. So, it is a good way to look at both.

There are ways to get to this successful group, and by doing goal setting, I have to congratulate you, as you are only one of few who goal set. However to get into that 5% of true achievers there is a few things more to do, and these steps are essential for success.

Your goals must be written down. After all, it must be an important goal. An important goal set is one which must be written down or it will fade. Remember your goal, and write it down, this is the first point of achievement.

However, simply writing a goal down does not do much difference to the achievement. There is more to do, if you truly want this goal manifest in your life. The most important way to go about writing your goal is to be clear. So many people will wish, so many people will say I want to be rich, I want to be healthy, I want a Yacht, but so few will do the most important step - formulate, clarify, and write it down.

Upon looking at your set goal, consider what it is you really want? Is it $1,000,000? Is it a certain weight, a certain holiday, a certain Yacht? People will say they want a Yacht, but never did anything about it, apart from something aired on the Discovery Channel!

Our minds are like a great ocean; however, we need to find ways to focus. Most people go through life without controlling the ship. You are like a ship, like an airplane, a missile, and a powerful one at that. To reach your goal, you have to know the destination, and approximately how long it will take for you to get there.

If you are one of those 5% who will one day realize the results of the 5%, then you are one who is taking action, now. Everyday you take action. For you, I want to leave you with one key overlooked, and that is time.

You have to know where you are, and where you are going, and how long it could take. Though most people like you, who take action will find that the goal is not achieved in the time set, and here is where catastrophes could happen.

Most people who reach this stage will give up, because they see the goal not achieved. However, remember this is a goal which you have set, and never achieved before. Though you maybe like an airplane, a goal striving being, you have to realize that the airplane has made the journey many countless times, years upon years, and they know almost with certainty the time it will take.

If you are on a journey to a new destination, one which you have not been to before, don’t question how to goal set, instead think of yourself like Columbus. You have your goal, and work to it, you don’t know how long it will take, but you can console that it can be achieved in a lifetime.

How To Set Short And Long Term Goals

Posted by Successu7 in Goal Setting

Is there a science to setting short and long term goals? And how do you set short and long term goals? As you read this article, you will find my personal chart on how to set short and long term goals.

Setting goals is great, however, what about the time? The question then becomes - how to set short and long term goals. Here is my chart with explanations on how to set short and long term goals.

(Long Term Goals)
Lifetime
10 Years
5 Years
3 Years
2 Year

Long term goals are where it all begins. If you find that you are trying to set short term goals only, then you will not go far. Jesus for example was a very long term goal setter. His inspiration and divine message came to us with a long term view.

For most people, they look day to day, week to week. Making your goals stem from the long term, will mean you are a ship going forward, rather than trying to tackle a storm.

(Mid Range Goals)
1 Year
6 Month

Mid range goals are excellent. They are more tangible. Though they can seem like a while away, they still feel closer than thinking about a decade or a lifetime. Here is where adjustments are made, that take you towards your long term goals.

(Small Range Goals)
- 3 month goals
- 1 month goals
- Fortnightly goals

Small range goals are round the corner! They are goals which are easily set, and workable. Though they won’t be large commitments, the incremental successes with these goals will take you forward to your long term vision.

(Personal Time)
- Weekly Goals

Most people stick here. It is the weekly pay check. It is what people are doing over the weekend, etc. These goals fall into what I call personal time. They can be great to measure, and see your progress.

(Personal Time - Micro Time)
- Daily Goals
- Hourly Goals
- Sub Hour and Minute Goals (every 30 or 15 minutes, and even a minute)

This area of goal setting is micro time, and personal time. Here is where action falls. And here is where it will make or break your future. If you want to breakthrough to success, you will need to take actions that lead you to your long term vision.

* How To Set Short And Long Term Goals
If you’re wondering how you take this information, and how to set short and long term goals, you will need to think about the long term. The long term is the domain of the goal setter and goal achiever. When you can break down goals effectively into bite size pieces then you can succeed.

Success in the long term is born from success in the short term. Most people don’t succeed because they focus on the short term, and forget the long term. Like ships at harbor, they bop up and down, but never move forward to distant lands.

Your vision is round the corner, but to get there, you will need to take action. But, first, you will need to know where you want to go. Don’t do what many do, and wait because they don’t know what they want. You need to focus on what you want.

People Who Need To Learn To Set Goals

Posted by Successu7 in Goal Setting

Is there a specific type of people who need to learn to set goals or does everyone need to learn how to set goals? People who need to learn to set goals, do they need to belong to a certain class, be in a certain profession only need to set goals? In this article, you will find out about the people who need to learn to set goals.

If you ask me about goal setting, I will tell you that everything I do is about setting goals and achieving them. You see I am a goal setter, and goal achiever. That is how I operate. Often to goal setters, goal setting can seem like second nature. But, there are others who don’t set goals.

So, are there people who need to learn to set goals? I recommend that all people should set goals; however, before we get to that, it is best to answer the question of if there are people who need to learn to set goals.

Yes, there are! There is a certain type of people, who need to learn to set goals. These people are people who deal with the livelihood of others. For example, people who need to learn to set goals are managers, business people, and even pilots.

These people are the leading edge, from the executive, to the manager; they are responsible for other people’s livelihoods. When you have a lot of people to manage, goal setting must become second nature.

Goal setting should not stop at these people. It involves you, me and everyone else on this planet. You see, today’s US would not be there, if it were not for the goal setters.

I can prove this point to you. If you think for a moment, where you are seated, if you did not have a goal right now, you could not continue reading this article. You could not decide to go forward, you could not decide to go back, and you would be stuck.

This is how goal setting plays such a major role in society. As more and more people set goals, the more society moves forward. However, it can’t stop on the goal setting. There is a process to goal setting, and it needs a system that allows you to take action.

After all, many people do have goals. We see it every year, at New Years, when the resolutions are set. But, they never really get set, and go, because within 2 weeks, it is all forgotten till next year!

I hope this has given you the importance of goal setting. Not only is it important for you, it is important to your friends, family and everyone else in the world. When you can go in the direction of your choosing, the more you can achieve in 1 lifetime.

If you find that you are a manager, entrepreneur or even if you are a parent with children, you should consider taking up goal setting. It will not only benefit your own life, it will benefit everyone around you.

Is Financial Freedom A Goal For You

Posted by Playme in Goal Setting

In todays world finding financial freedom is the dream of a lot of people, with the ability to reach millions useing the internet. If you have the desire to make your financial world better, you can do this by working for yourself.
Here are some thoughts on how you may be able to acheive this goal.

When you work for yourself online or whatever home business you choose there is no one controlling how much money you can earn except you. There are no limits when you work for yourself. No worries about getting a promotion because the boss does not like you or not getting a raise because you do not play the office politics game or you were late getting to work a few times.
When you are really ready to start on the journey to financial freedom you are ready to start working for yourself. There are lots of different career paths that you can follow, that can be done from home, maybe to start just part time and work toward fulltime. The eventual goal is to stay home and earn an income online with the use of your computer.

Pick a career that you are interested in or that you have experience in and chances are good that you can somehow spin that into a job that you can do from home.
Do you like to fix things?
Start a repair business that you can run out of your home.
Are you great with kids? You could open a home daycare.
Do you have a background in customer service?. You could become a virtual assistant or customer service rep for a large corporation, there are call centers and many other options.

The only way that you can fail on the journey to is if you do not take that step and strike out on your own,as mentioned start parttime and build to where you want to go.You can stay in the same job for years, even decades, and not get any further along in your journey to financial freedom.

But if you work for yourself you can move down that path towards your goal at speeds you did not think were possible because you will not have anyone holding you back or trying to stop your progress. In the past working for yourself meant coming up with a business plan and getting a small business loan and lots of other steps that were tedious and often were unsuccessful, along with still needing to build your image and that is still the case with online, but these day technology has made it much easier to get started.

You can set up a business as fast as you can set up a website and you can be making money and get started on that journey in under a week. The main focus will be getting the traffic to see your site and know where you are, this is the work part.It could take a short time or a long time depends on what you choose to do.

Lots of people would love to work for themselves, but are scared to leave the security of their jobs even if those jobs do not pay them enough to ever achieve real financial freedom. Are you one of those people that is too scared to invest in yourself,if not you should seriously consider a career change, and begin slow and build.Working for yourself give you a much better chance that you will achieve financial freedom because you are the one in control.

In this age of great technology we have a vast array of choices we did not utilize 10 yrs. ago and now you can do whatever you want with the world at your fingertips.I am confident if you wish to make a change then you can and will.

I am a retired senior and am on a quest with my home based business to reach my rainbow, and my pot of gold.Go here to see what I am doing:

What’s Your Song? Learning This ‘Secret’ Will Practically Gurarantee Your Success

Posted by Daxmoy in Goal Setting

One of my clients is a musician.

A very well known musician.

His face has adorned the cover of practically every popular magazine, his music is known worldwide and the band he’s part of is one of the most successful in the world in terms of popularity, longevity and record sales.

He’s definitely ‘there’ as far as realising his boyhood dreams of making it big in the music world, for sure.

Yesterday I was asking him about the success that he and his fellow band-mates had achieved and what, if anything, had been the turning point. That point at which they knew they were going to make it.

His answer was amazingly simple and straightforward.

He said, there hadn’t been a ‘turning point’ as such, there was just a lot of putting one foot in front of the other and taking the steps necessary to reach their goal of stardom.

Sounds a bit vague right?

That’s what I thought… at first.

But then I asked, “what were those steps?” and I got the following reply.

1. We knew we wanted to make a difference so we kept that uppermost in our minds at all times… especially when things got tough.

2. We knew we wanted to be more than just another band so we did things differently from the start rather than playing the copycat game. We practically created our own genre of music and that helped us stand out from the crowd.

3. We knew that we were entering perhaps the most competitive industry on the planet and so we’d have to commit to being the very best we could be every time we went onstage or into the recording studio.

4. We knew that the rewards would not be immediate but that if we committed to the other steps, they WOULD come.

5. We KNEW we would make it!

Amazing huh?

I mean, becoming a multi platinum selling band and known around the world has GOT to be tougher than many of the goals we’ve set for ourselves, right?

In fact, considering the attrition rates of rock-star wannabe’s, making a measly hundred grand, writing a book, travelling the world or getting rid of 20lbs should be one of the simplest things in the world.

Especially if you were paying attention to the success lesson that my clients’ answers provided!

You were paying attention weren’t you?

If not, here it is again.

1. Make a difference to the lives of those you’re ‘performing’ for.

Yes, your job, your relationships, your friendships and how you live your life are just as much a performance as playing an instrument or acting onstage. If you know your part well and you’re truly committed to serving your ‘audience’ with the best possible service you’re capable of, then you’re halfway there!

2. Be unique right from the start.

Forget copycatting and trying to be like everyone else. People aren’t interested in just another ‘me-too’ version of someone else, but they could be VERY interested in you… if you make yourself interesting.

Create a Unique Identity or ‘brand’ around yourself that differentiates you from everyone else and you’re immediately in the spotlight.

3. Commit to being the best that you can be.

Gain the knowledge, skills and abilities to become a true professional in your field. Commit to excellence in all things that you do and ensure that your excellence shines through clear enough that you stand out from others. (Become outstanding!)

4. Be persistent in your actions.

Take consistent and persistent action toward achieving your goals. Even the tiniest step is still a step that will progress you in the direction of your dreams of success. Thinking about what you could do changes nothing.

Do!

5. Have faith and belief in yourself and your dreams of success.

It’s been said that faith is the belief in something you cannot prove, yet it has a funny way of delivering proof if you believe for long enough.

Don’t just wish, hope and dream of success. KNOW that it’s on its way!

If this formula can work to create fame, fortune and world-wide recognition for a musician, just think what it’ll do for YOUR life!

Everyone has a song inside them. That ‘thing’ they were put here to do.

Finding the song and singing it with all your might is the true key to lasting success.

What’s YOUR song?
