Bible Stories For Children Dissected, The Crossing Of The Red Sea

Posted by Dmaillie in Religion and Spirituality

Many thousands of years ago, the Israelites were actually slaves to the Egyptians. When Moses and the Israelites finally left Egypt thousands of years ago on their infamous trek to their homeland they encountered many difficulties. The enormous Red Sea was on of these and became most famous for this story, the parting of the red sea. God told Moses in Exodus 14-15 that he was to lead the children of Israel to their homeland and that he, God, would take care of them. God warned Moses that there would be many trials and tribulations.

When Moses and the Israelites got to the Red Sea, their problem got compounded by the Egyptian army. The Egyptian leader, Pharaoh, had used the Israelites as slave labor to build his great pyramids and monuments. He only agreed to let them go after several plagues had been been brought upon Egypt. These plagues consisted of locusts that ruined crops, frogs, snakes, and even what is referred to as the death angel that took the life of each male firstborn child. The Pharaoh had enough after his son was killed and agreed to let the Israelites go back to Israel. Almost immediately he recounted his thoughts and sent a large portion of his army, chariots and all, after the Israelites.

So, when the Israelites arrived at the Red Sea, they saw the arriving Egyptians and panicked. Moses prayed to God for deliverance and God opened up the Red Sea, parting it so the Israelites could cross. There are two schools of thought on this. One is that it did occur exactly as stated in the story. The other that it occurred in North Egypt in the marshlands of the Northern end or mouth of the Nile river. This are of the Nile would have been very difficult for chariots to get through as they would have gotten bogged down and stuck in the mud and dense weeds. This would have been a great place for an ambush by the Israelites and there would have been mass casualties by the unprepared Egyptians. This could perhaps be the first instance of what we today refer to as Gorilla warfare. Whichever school you choose to believe it is fact that the Israelites did embark on this trek as artifacts and other archaeological proof has been found that unequivocally prove this.

Back to the story of the parting of the Red Sea, the Israelites were scared and prayed to God for deliverance. God brought darkness, possible thunderstorms, over the Egyptians and fire over the Israelites, possible lightening. God then told Moses to raise his hands at the sea. The sea then parted and the Israelites did cross the sea. After the Israelites did cross the sea and arrive on dry land, the Egyptians started to cross. God told Moses to raise his hands again and the sea was flooded once more and the Egyptians were drowned in it. In the end of the story, the Israelites sang songs and praised God for their deliverance from the Egyptians and slavery.

There are many ideas and schools of thought with different points of view on what actually occurred here, but archaeological proof does exist that the trek and crossing from Egypt to Israel did occur and that numerous hardships did occur. Religion and God played a large role in this trek and in these times thousands of years ago. In current research, the use of bible coding software also states that this trek occurred. It also states that Moses, the Ten Commandments, and how the bible was encoded or revealed to Moses may soon have great impact on all of us as the possibility of further expansion of the war in the Middle East continues. God did have a marked impact on the Israelites on their infamous trek thousands of years ago, and the reason for the implicit warnings in Revelations and the recent unveiling of the bible codes is that we can change. We can, as a whole, change or alter our future.

Do You Believe That God Can’t Use You Because Of Your Past?

Posted by Teahupoo in Religion and Spirituality

Are you the type of person who believes that God can’t use you? Do you feel like you have been through so much or done so much that you have become unwanted by God? Let me assure you this is not the case and I will prove it to you with some examples.

There are so many people in our society today who have been broken and battered and been through things like divorce, drug addiction, and alcohol that feel like they could never be used by God. Maybe it is their own conscience making them think this, maybe it is from being raised in a household that focused on the judgment of God. Whatever the reason, I am here to tell you that there is almost nothing you can do to get yourself thrown out of the arms of God. If it is His purpose to use you for something He wills, it doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done, as a matter of fact in many cases that is exactly why He chooses such people. What makes a better example of the power of God, the incredible transformation of a drug dealer into an evangelist or missionary or someone who was raised in the church being a pastor?

There are numerous examples of this in the bible, and to keep it simple I am only going to use examples that you will readily recognize so that you don’t have to go look them up. If you think that God won’t use you because you are vain and self indulgent you are wrong. Samson was dedicated to God at birth, he squandered his gift and told Delilah the secret of his strength and had it stripped of him. But, what happened in the end, God gave it back to him and used him to kill his enemies.

If you are in prison and you think God can’t use you because you are a murderer, again you are wrong. If you repent and take God into your heart believing in Jesus as your Lord and savior you will be forgiven and you can be used. Want an example of a murderer? How about Moses? Moses murdered an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew when he was with the Egyptians being raised as royalty. Afterwards he fled into the wilderness, it was there that God began shaping him and he eventually was used to deliver the people of Israel from the bondage of the very people who had raised him.

You think you can’t be used because you’ve lusted after your neighbor; you have been an adulterer, you’ve lied over and over, stolen things? David did all of these things and more and yet he was considered the highest of all the kings of Israel, and called “A man after God’s own heart”.

Have you always talked bad about God and Christianity, possibly even done a little persecution of your own on a small scale? Paul was one of the biggest persecutors of the early church and even ordered and watched people being stoned to death. He became perhaps the most outspoken evangelist in the history of Christianity and wrote over two thirds of the bible. Still think you can’t be used? I say you’re wrong.

The Importance Of Prayer And Meditation With God

Posted by Dmaillie in Religion and Spirituality

Prayer and meditation have been proven in multiple settings to have a profound influence on peoples health and especially on hospital patients. People who pray and meditate daily have shown marked decreases in stress hormone levels. They have also been shown to age better, live longer, and handle adversity far better. Basically, people that believe in God and pray consistently are happier and have a better quality of life. Why is this?

People that pray and meditate feel a sense of belonging. They are not alone to face the perils of this world. All major religions believe in a God and that through this prayer and meditation they can communicate with God. They can ask for forgiveness and ask for help. It has long been shown by psychologists and psychiatrists that it is essential to have a sense of belonging for proper mental health. People that are loners by nature tend to die early, not look and feel as healthy, and do not handle adversity and stress well. They tend to hold it in and then blow up on those that are actually trying to help them.

Prayer and meditation let one detoxify their body and mind of toxic thoughts. Just like toxins we are familiar with, toxic thoughts can bring on depression, dark thoughts, hatred, mental illness and even suicide. Toxic thoughts and being alone are very negative for good mental health. By praying and meditating we are distressing our bodies and learning to put ourselves and our minds in a relaxed state. The best thing is that prayer and mediation are free. You can do it anywhere at anytime, in an elevator, in a quiet room, before going to sleep at night, the possibilities are endless. Prayer will help clean your mind of worry and stressful thoughts and replace them with thoughts of hope and serenity. Prayer before bedtime has been proven to reduce or entirely eliminate the need for sleep pills altogether in some cases.

Prayer should not be thought of as a chore. It can be as simple as the infamous Lords Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Basically in the Lords Prayer one is asking for forgiveness, for deliverance, guidance and that Gods will be done. In Matthew 7:11 it says:

So if you, weak mortals that you are, are capable of making good gifts to your children, do not you think your spiritual Father will give even better gifts to those who ask him?

We need to realize that regardless of our religion, God is infinitesimally smarter beyond any human comprehension and knows what is best for each and every one of us. God may not always seem to answer our prayers in the way we would like, but that does not mean he does not hear us. God gave us the gift of prayer so that not only could we talk to him, but so we could heal our bodies and better cope with the stresses of daily life. Through our prayer and meditation we can learn patience, forgiveness, hope, love and true happiness. This is why some biblical scholars say prayer is Gods greatest gift to mankind.

Using Birthdates In Numerology

Names have a definitive role in the art of numerology, but so do birthdates. Human life is composed of two processes, giving out and taking in. Expressing the vibration or rate of energy contained in the character at birth and including the vibration or rate of energy contained in environment, experiences and associations. These processes perpetuate our psychical or cosmic existence in the same way as the inhalation and exhalation of the breath continues our physical life by revitalizing our cell consciousness.

Just as a name is a full and complete record of all the vibrations and elements of character, a record of lessons learned in past lives, and an infallible indication to the characteristics, impulses, appearance and abilities of the present individuality, so the birth date represents The character of the environment, the associations and experiences by which our character is extended into a greater state of perfection, and is a definite indication of what we are living for and the underlying causes.

The actual experiences and personalities presented by life as a whole, and also peculiar to certain periods, are simply the outward and visible manifestations or the effects of these causes. Thus Numerology deals with the two important phases of character analysis, viz.: Individual character and environment.

Individual development is begun with the first breath taken in life, and naturally as an individual reaches and passes maturity he registers and reproduces certain elements of the birth date numbers in his individual contact with conditions and his general personality. The “Path of Life”, as the numbers of the birth date are termed, indicate then the immediate destiny of every individual, what has to be learned as the next step in development, necessary to the construction of a consciousness of human life. As the true value of this step is understood we will evolve constructively and harmoniously adjusting to the opportunities and associations around us.

A great deal of unhappiness met by the average individual is really due to their ignorance of any definite plan of thought or action which they should follow and other people should not. Sometimes other people are blamed for our troubles when the real cause is that we are trying to follow someone else’s path and not our own, or are seeking experiences which may be good for the other fellow but bad for us.

Numerology proves by its calculation and explanation of the numbers in the birth date that Life is an individual problem, that what “is sauce for the goose” is not always “sauce for the gander.” There can be very few happy and permanently successful people in any social order where there is too much generalization in philosophies and too much standardization of personal thought and action.

People are more than male and female, old and young, rich and poor, educated and illiterate. They are individuals, proceeding from the cradle to the grave in social functions and experiences that only seem to make their paths appear the same; as a matter of fact we all are born singly, make our decisions singly, suffer singly, and at the end no one else can die for us.

Character is the only possession we bring into life or take out of it, and if we study the numerals of our birth date we shall find the proper keys to the building and rounding out of our character which of itself is the best assurance of success.

More Than Pews: Your Church Chair Options

Posted by Anutt in Religion and Spirituality

Church chairs have come a long way since the hard wooden pews of the old days. . . and even longer since the unattractive, backache-inducing chairs that you remember from Sunday school. The modern church chair industry is proving that church chairs can be comfortable, beautiful, durable, and affordable.

Though the beauty of a lacquered hardwood chair is undeniable, modern times require that church congregations be flexible and economical as they outfit their spaces. Nowadays, a church space is constantly evolving. It houses musicals, theater performances, and meetings as well as worship. Because of this, a quality church chair should be lightweight, store easily, and hold up to consistent use.

Movable church chairs come in one of two main categories: stacking or folding. Wooden stacking chairs are more attractive, but are generally quite a bit more expensive. They usually cost $100 or more. Metal, upholstered stacking chairs are more affordable, commonly selling for $25-$50.

Price

The most affordable option for churches is the metal folding chair, which typically costs $15-20. Metal chairs are less costly than wood, and they’re also much lighter. A quality metal chair is built with 16-gauge steel and finished with plating or epoxy to keep rust at bay. It’s important to consider the strength of a chair’s frame. Stacking chairs puts them under a lot of pressure, and a weak chair will start to break or bend out of shape.

Comfort

But cost and durability aren’t the only important concerns. What about comfort? We all have stories about the agony induced by hours spent in terribly uncomfortable church pews or chairs. Advances in chair design have made it possible worship in comfort. Wider chairs, for instance, tend to be much more comfortable. Generally, 20- or 21-inch wide chairs are far more accommodating than 18-inch chairs. The pitch of a chair back is another important consideration. Different pitches help people in locations throughout the sanctuary feel comfortable. Special chairs built for choir or orchestra members are also available.

Style

Church chairs are available in a wide array of colors and fabrics. Manufacturers take custom orders, and will even match upholstery to the color of your church. Chair upholstery comes in varying levels of quality depending on the price. It’s important to be thrifty when choosing your chairs, but remember that cheap fabric will wear out much faster than higher-end fabric.

Options

Today’s best church chairs come with several possible add-ons. Ganging devices, book racks, and armrests are all available. Ganging chairs have special brackets on either side that allow them to hook together and form rows, which can be very convenient when you are setting up for weddings or other events.

Truth is, buying church chairs is no longer a straight-forward process. There are simply too many choices! It might seem daunting or confusing at first, but remember to stick to your budget and your principles, and you’ll be able to get the perfect chair to meet your church’s needs.

MBI offers a large selection of custom finished Church Chairs and Pew chairs for your Church, Sunday School room or Fellowship Hall.

The Basics Of Wicca

Posted by Vgevge in Religion and Spirituality

First, let me give you my Basics of Wicca write-up, which is my own take on Wicca based on 13 years of practice. It will suggest a couple of truly informative books for you to read. Wicca is a very complex faith, which embraces widely varying practices and many different Traditions. The following, however, is what I consider to be “the basics”. Wicca is about 60 years old, with roots in Masonic practices, ceremonial magic, and the Romantic era’s ideas of classical religions. Its founder was a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner.

It is in many ways a postmodern faith, embracing religious relativism, and one that resonates powerfully for increasing numbers of people.

The central tenet of the Wicca religion is the Wicca Rede: “If you harm none, do what you will.” This is a deceptively simple “commandment” which can take a lifetime to contemplate and to master. Many Wicca’s also believe in the Law of Threefold Return, sometimes called the Rule of Three: “Whatever you do, for good or ill, will come back upon you three times over.”

Wicca”s honor Deity as both male and female, god and goddess or at the very least as goddess. Many Wicca’s believe that the universe is the body of god/goddess, and therefore that all things contain divine energy and that the world itself is sacred. Some Wicca’s are polytheists, many god /goddesses, others are duo theists, god and goddess, of whom all other gods and goddesses are simply aspects, others are monotheists, god and goddess themselves are simply aspects of an unknowable Source.

Wicca’s generally do not believe that god/goddess is separate from the world; therefore, we have no concept of salvation, since god/goddess is present to all and always. Many Wicca’s believe that god/goddess is too big to fit inside one religion. All religions/spiritual paths are ways of reaching the same goal, and atheism and agnosticism are honorable perspectives on the mystery of life.

Each Wicca operates as their own priest/priestess. We do not have a distinction between clergy and laity. Therefore, each Wicca is responsible for their own personal development and for forging their own relationship with god/goddess. Some Wicca’s practice in covens, which are generally initiatory and require a long period of study. Traditionally a year and a day before entering. Others practice in loosely affiliated groups of solitaries, which are Wicca’s who practice outside of traditional coven structure. Others simply practice alone.

Wicca’s do not usually have churches. We create sacred space as and where needed, by casting “circles” of energy which function as temples. When inside those circles, we invite the spirits of the four Platonic elements air, fire, water, and earth to join us, as well as the goddess and the god or at minimum the Goddess.

Wicca’s have celebrations that are timed to both the solar and lunar calendars. The solar festivals held at the solstices, the equinoxes, and four points in between them are called sabbats. The lunar holy days are called esbats, and are held at the full moon each month, and sometimes at the new moon as well.

Many people practice witchcraft, which we see as working with the Divine energy that permeates the world to bring about change. In accordance with the Wicca Rede, the vast majority of Wicca’s will not curse or perform magic to bring harm upon anyone else. A relatively objective, non-Wicca set of articles on what Wicca’s do and believe:

If you’re looking to do some reading, I’d recommend “Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner” by Scott Cunningham, and “The Triumph of the Moon” by Ronald Hutton. The best advice I can give you is to pick up the Cunningham book I mentioned and start living the rites of worship and the sabbats as he outlines them.

His book contains pretty much everything you need to get started. Wicca is not something you do one or two days a week, it is a way of life that keeps you in touch with the Lord and the Lady with every breath you take and every beat of your heart. I truly hope that it turns out to be a wonderful and fulfilling path for you. Many Wicca’s have significant problems with them and their teachings.

Be sure that when you do your Wicca you do it for all the right reasons. There are a lot of people out there that don’t understand and if they think they understand they take that to the wrong place and then you won’t hear from them or anything like that. I am not saying that you need to hide it I am just saying that you should keep things like magic of witchcraft to yourself of to the people that are in your coven.
